Largest civilian ship I've ever built. Design goal of 5000 km/s with enough armor to travel through any known nebula with no slowdown and enough CIWS to be virtually immune to missile attack in the hopes that if one of these does come under attack I'll have time to rescue it, although only civ shipping lines will be flying them unescorted. It should be noted that despite pouring sufficient money into civilian subsidies on 2 of my lines and obsoleting all other designs the civilian sector has yet to build one, so government only design atm.  >:(

Jormungandr class Superfreighter    4,000,000 tons     31660 Crew     174844.8 BP      TCS 80000  TH 400000  EM 0
5000 km/s     Armour 20-2244     Shields 0-0     Sensors 18/18/0/0     Damage Control Rating 5     PPV 0
MSP 137    Max Repair 100 MSP
Cargo 2500000    Cargo Handling Multiplier 1000

Inertial Confinement Fusion Drive E0.4 (1000)    Power 400    Fuel Use 4%    Signature 400    Armour 0    Exp 1%
Fuel Capacity 16,000,000 Litres    Range 180.0 billion km   (416 days at full power)

CIWS-320 (250x12)    Range 1000 km     TS: 32000 km/s     ROF 5       Base 50% To Hit
Thermal Sensor TH1-18 (1)     Sensitivity 18     Detect Sig Strength 1000:  18m km
EM Detection Sensor EM1-18 (1)     Sensitivity 18     Detect Sig Strength 1000:  18m km

This design is classed as a Commercial Vessel for maintenance purposes

The commission of the first Dwarf class mining ship.

I hope it menaces with spikes of Duranium and is adorned with hanging rings of Corbomite!

It shouldn't take more than five years. Probably below two.

Training all those crewmen should be a pain though, you don't want a ship like that stired by conscripts.

I'm just waiting on the resources to build one of these:
Maria class Superfreighter    12,605,300 tons     60355 Crew     205084.6 BP      TCS 252106  TH 687500  EM 0
2727 km/s     Armour 1-4824     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 50     PPV 0
MSP 508    Max Repair 86 MSP
Cargo 5000000    Habitation Capacity 1,000,000

Magnetic Confinement Fusion Drive Civ Mil (2000)    Power 343.75    Fuel Use 6%    Signature 343.75    Armour 0    Exp 2%
Fuel Capacity 50,000,000 Litres    Range 119.0 billion km   (505 days at full power)

This design is classed as a Commercial Vessel for maintenance purposes
This design is classed as an Orbital Habitat for construction purposes

But for some reason I have a slight shortage of Duranium, Mercassium and Gallicite. I can't possibly think why that might be.

Ah, an orbital habitat probably won't be constructed by Civ Industry.  The 4 mil one will though-- just infrequently, thats a lot of BP for the civs to assign.

One thing I'm doing is using the supercharging tech line (reduced fuel efficiency) on civ-industry designs-- extra bang for the buck, and civs manage their own damn fuel ;)

The build time wasn't actually bad, the biggest time sink was waiting for one of my civilian shipyards to get large enough. Even that didn't take too long though.

There was one problem though... The shipyard for them originally had 4 slipways (I used SM to 'mothball' 2 of the slipways) and it requires so many workers that it's caused my homeworld with 2 billion citizens to be understaffed.

What did you actually use this ship for? Could it be filled up?

My empire is more of a conglomeration of pocket empires. I don't colonize a system that can't be self-sufficient. So I built a pair of them and when I find a new system I think would make a good addition I use them to quickly ship over 500 construction factories and 500-1000 mines.

Obviously I could have just built a large number of my previous 250kt design with 125k cargo space, but where's the fun in that?

Build the huge one, because why the hell not?

And will civilians not build orbital habitats? I was under the impression that if it had cargo bays and was designated as civilian, they would build it regardless of other components. Although as I say, I don't really intend those super designs for civilian use, I have smaller designs for them at the moment. Though it would certainly be... interesting to see a 12 million ton civilian freighter flying around.

So long as it has at least 1 cargo bay, colonist transport or passenger area, civs will build it. And it is better fir the civs to build a few really large designs than a lot of small ones.

Because someone on another forum was offering it to anyone who wanted it :(. If I have no idea who has it, then any bug report could be someone who inadverently screwed up their game in designer mode and doesn't realise it.

Steve

SIGH.
Well, at least it lasted for a good long time before someone screwed it up.
I had sent you an email, not knowing what had happened. Since I now do,
can you tell me which version you changed it? I can install the earlier version
alongside the latest, and still have my, ahem, voyeuristic, fun! ")

How about SMALLEST Civilian vessels? Currently, my smallest is about 0.3 HS, costing 3.6 BP to produce. It's a jump-point camping sensor outpost.

Blue, are you writing any fiction? I followed your Ad Astra campaign and really liked it - would read moar!

Nothing since Ad Astra. The entire 7,752-post thread is on the Paradox forum... but that might have been the version you already read.

We will likely be starting a new forum game after Rendap finishes his game.
