Have I found the NPR?
« on: January 09, 2011, 09:18:50 PM »
I know NPRs can be generated when a system is first entered, but the one I found, has a colony on another
moon in the system. Can generated NPRs have colonies, or does this mean I found the starting NPR? I have
a spy ship orbiting one of the other moons in the system, just laying low and watching. It's fascinating watching
ships go back and forth between the mother world and it's colony. :) Disappointing too, as I thought I had found
a system with two colonizable planets. Oh well. ^_-

NPRs can do anything a player can. It might be the original NPR, it might be an NPR activated by the original, or one activated by one activated by the original, ad nauseum. ;)

It might be a crowded universe out there, geometrically speaking. :)
Heh, I blew away some precursers just before I found that system.
It was fun actually. They never knew I was there, until the missles
started hitting. First time I EVER took Precursers by surprise, as they
usually surprise ME. :)

True, but we're still trying to establish communications with these guys. Although of a much lower
tech level than me, he could still prove a valuable resource. Failing that, dropping troops onsite will
provide ready made colonies. :)

Spoke too soon on Precursers. The ambush was nice, but two survey detatchments were just ambushed
in turn. Survey Cappa was still using the old Lancae class cruisers, which had a top speed of only 6111 km/s,
light armour and shields, and old CIWS. They got pounded and lost one ship. If the Precursers hadn't turned
away, they would have lost them all, as the Precursers had a top speed of over 12000 km/s.

The second ambush was little better, even though Survey Delta had modern Hun class cruisers. Delta lost one
cruiser, which wasn't bad because they were POUNDED continuously by missle salvos. The more modern CIWS
did a good job destroying some of the missles, and with a top speed almost twice that of the Precursers, they
could have outrun them if they hadn't gotten so close before being detected. Even so, Delta escaped with one
ship destroyed, one heavily damaged, and the remaining three had armour that resembled swiss cheese. Thank
goodness the Huns had light shields, and heavy armour! :)

Ok. That's it. Actives stay on during system surveys from now on.
Another ambush with one ship destroyed, the others limping back
to Terra for repairs. Beta was the first to detect Precursers with her
actives at 115 million km, and was easily able to beat him to the
warp point. Actives may be easier for them to detect, but at least
they won't take you by surprise! Heh. :)

Hmmm. Looks like it was the starting NPR after all. I had to conquer him as communication proved
impossible, and he turned hostile when the Diplomatic Team failed. I've found three other NPRs, and
conquered one. It had nothing on the planet but population. I had to fight ground units by landing
assault troops, but no bombardment was needed, as my Assault Troops demolished them. The other
two NPRs appear to have nothing in space either. I hope system generated NPRs can be advanced, or
I'm REALLY going to be sorry I had to take out the starting NPR. :( BTW, Both of his worlds are now
Candidate Populations. I think that's one step from Imperial Population. ^_-

The longer you leave them alone, the bigger and more advanced they will get.

You can always create extra NPRs after the game starts. I did that in my recent game to offset the high tech level I had at start.  Unfortunately, one of them found a new race and has fought a short and devastating war that has resulted in both of the antagonists destroying each other's fleets.  The other NPR picked a fight with me as soon as we made contact.  That has not gone well for them. Over 100 enemy warships killed for no loss so far ;D
Looks like I'll be generating another soon.

Thanks. I didn't know about that, and I generated two NPRs to replace
the pussies. Hope I don't end up regretting that. :) If so, it will still be glorious. ^_-

What is it that Klingons always say?
"Today is a Good Day to Die."
With that thought in mind, I think
I'll turn <CENSORED> on soon.
I think I am advanced enough to
die slowly, instead of quickly. :)
