Hi, i'm a regular lurker on this forum and love reading the stories here, they have helped me learn the game and have immense amount of fun playing it. I thought I would contribute back with my own story. Starting off as a sort of guide to how I tackle a “default” conventional start and expand in to a story. I have very much enjoyed playing this campaign so far as it has helped my to RP more and make everything more interesting. Please feel free to provide feedback good or bad and suggestions for future events
This is the Story of the United Australian Republic. Formed after the nuclear war that engulfed the US, Russia and China. Fortunately due to Australians unique isolated location they were “almost” untouched by the war, apart from the nuclear fallout. And quickly became the centre of wealth and power in the world. The year begins in 2000 --- keeps things easy to keep track of
where the population is ready to reach for the stars.

Today is a tremendous day as the first two Ships of the new United Australian Republic has being completed. Both ships are launched simultaneously from the dock and is broadcast around the world. The people are amazed at the speed in which these massive vessels move away from dock.
Canberra 1 is given to Capitan Emma Hay (surv 45%)
Canberra 2 is given to Commander Louis Wood. (surv 30%)
To celebrate and to raise moral of the people a shakedown race is organised. Both ships shall race to the moon to drive home the tremendous achievement and advancement in technology the United Australian Republic has achieved.
The Race was so tight not even 5 second gap separated the opponents. The entire race was over in just under 4 minutes! Sensors show from earth that Canberra 1, operated by Capitan Emma Hay, narrowly won due to her superior Fleet initiate. As a reward she began the first ever extraterrestrial survey on the moon. While Canberra 2 headed out for Mars.

Initial Survey Results over the next few months showed some significant findings.
Highlights:
Mercury has significant deposits of Dur Cor, Trit, Merc, sor, and uridum in reasonable accessibilities. And earmarked for a mining colony
Venus has Huge amounts of materials at extremely low accessibilities. Venus is marked as a possible backup mining location.
Mars and Luna have disappointingly no reasonable concentrations of Materials.
