To be honest it doesn't seem to be anything new, there have been theories that we haven't discovered all the planets in our solar system going back pretty much forever.
Is it possible there's a full-fledged planet yet to be discovered sitting in or beyond the Kuiper belt? Sure, but it's not likely, and it's certainly not a portent of a mysterious doom because the Mayans forgot to include instructions for a rollover on their calendar.
