As the original thread has focused on the new generation and the 'silly names' debate, I will split the thread and put the home worlds information here.
The new NPR customisation option allows you to choose a specific known system and dominant terrain for each NPR. For example, if you want to create the Vulcans, you can tell the game to generate the NPR on a desert planet in the 40 Eridani system (Star Trek canon for the location of Vulcan), or you could setup House Atreides on a temperate world in Delta Pavonis, etc.. Alternatively, you can leave this as random.
Therefore, I am looking at how to setup some sci-fi universes in more detail. For example, I am considering a Star Trek campaign starting as Earth, with all the Star Trek races setup as NPRs in the appropriate locations. However, I am running into some issues; mainly that Star Trek with its usual inconsistency and contradictions, is all over the place when it comes to translating lore locations into real world ones. Some are definite, such as Vulcan being in 40 Eridani, while other have no sources or multiple contradictory sources. Therefore I thought I would start a thread for those as geeky as myself
to try to pin down those locations. I'll start off with the following and add if I (or anyone else) find any more information.
Vulcan: 40 Eridani (confirmed by Roddenberry) - 16.5 LY
Andoria: Procyon (Memory Alpha) - 11.4 LY
Tellar Prime: 61 Cygni (Memory Alpha) - 11.4 LY
Romulus: Beta Trianguli Australis (Memory Beta) - 40 LY
Kronos: Omega Leonis (Star Trek into Darkness) - 108 LY
Bajor - 62 LY from Earth but no specific system
Cardassia - 5 LY from Bajor
Gorn Homeworld: stated as Tau Lacertae (Memory Beta), but no such star exists
Feel free to consider other real-world universes for similar lists, such as Babylon 5 for example.
