February 20276th February. EDAFirst five units of the Gomati II class joined the Fleet from the Vicktor Lenac Orbital ‘Yard, EDAV Bowfin, EDAV Catfish, EDAV Billfish, EDAV Batfish and EDAV Barracuda. The next five units have been laid down, Cod, Conger, Cuttlefish, Darter, and Devilfish.
7th February. EDAEDA sensors detected the launch of three new FAC from the Islamic Block orbital yard. Significantly these appear to be a new 1000 tonne class very much upgraded compared to the old Falaq class. It is speculated that this is a result of the massive technology leak at the beginning of last year. The new craft appear to have a series of vertical launch tubes rather than the older reloadable launcher technology, providing a greatly enhanced alpha strike.

This is a significant find since it vindicates the effort put into surveying the Solar System asteroids. It is also one of the last remaining TN elements the Mars settlement requires.
28th February. EDAThe troop transport Okinawa left the commercial Electric Boat Orbital ‘Yard. It immediately loaded the 7th Cavalry Mobile Infantry and set out to rendezvous with the recently completed Luda class escort cruisers Anshan and Luyang dispatched from the EDA main battle group at Mars. The group will then proceed to Titan and secure the active alien installations located there.
March 20279th March EDA.EDA Survey Command announced that the EDAV Sir Frances Drake had opportunistically surveyed the first comet it had come close to, designated Comet Walmsley (#8), which happened to be deep within the asteroid belt and discovered substantial amounts of TN minerals at excellent availabilities.

15th March. Titan.The Earth Defence Authority Transport Okinawa approached Titan warily, the escort cruisers closed up for action, as Titan grew ever larger before them, second largest moon in the Solar System, larger than Mercury, currently home to an alien presence. Fortunately there was no response, going on the showing the escort cruisers Zhonghua and Guangzhou of this design made against the alien ships with their inability to intercept the alien missiles.
The EDAT Okinawa slipped into orbit of Titan without mishap and delivered the 7th Cavalry MI to the surface by shuttle, initially securing the deserted alien city and setting up a defensive position, while hoping the aliens would not attack the expedition until preparations were finished. Their next mission would be to assault the active alien installations.
20th March. TitanIt was initially thought the alien installations could be taken soon after landing, but the surface conditions proved more severe than anticipated. Equipment regularly froze in the –178 degree C temperatures; the surface was criss-crossed with channels and fissures carved by the periodic storms of methane rain which sleeted down creating transient rivers that washed sooty soil from icy highlands out to short-lived pools and lakes. When it wasn’t raining the troops had to negotiate the now dry streambeds that were often choked with a “sand” of complex organics and glass-like water ice. If that wasn’t enough occasional lighting discharges split the murky sky blasting rilles across the landscape.
Pte Grundy looked up at the spires looming above him, it was hard to believe there were another five stories beneath his feet, under the “sand”, horrible stuff that, sticky, clogging up anything and everything. Still he had to emplace this man portable laser, then dig a fox hole or two and hope it didn’t rain before they were needed, he didn’t fancy becoming a firework, like poor old Smithy, he had jumped into a foxhole which just happened to be half full of hydrocarbon, he hit his jump jets and got out OK, then a few minutes later he went off with a bang, the techies said he had damaged a knee or ankle joint and the external methane atmosphere at a pressure of 1.5 atmospheres had got into his suit, once there was enough of it inside it only took an electrical spark to blow him to hell. Still the fireball had been impressive. They now pressurised the suits and accommodation units to 1.75 atmospheres to avoid that situation, but it would really eat into your reserves if you did spring a leak.In the planning stages of the assault it had been decided to make an overland approach rather than risk a direct aerial insertion using the vulnerable shuttlecraft from the Okinawa. Thus it took a few days to get the 7th Cavalry into position to attack, travelling across the difficult terrain on the Xanadu plateau. More than one soldier found himself submerged in a pool of liquid hydrocarbon, such as ethane* when the thin surface layer of water ice gave way beneath him. There were fortunately few deaths, the suits not designed for immersion in such freezing liquid. On one occasion the whole line of advance had to be altered because a large cryovolcano created an impassable obstacle as it spewed a slurry of water and ammonia suspended in methane kilometres into the atmosphere. Cryoclastic flows could be seen tumbling off the flanks of the volcano, the channels and rilles spreading out from the base of the mount were filled with a raging torrent of water ice and ammonia “rocks” carried along by liquid hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbon lakes were a constant hazard to be avoided.
Pte Grundy lurched as his shoulder mounted flechette launcher spat a cloud of projectiles at the small missile which had just singled him out as its target, visibility was down to about 30 metres, so he was operating off lidar and sonics, his targeting comp locked onto the launcher site and he triggered a stream of high velocity penetrators from his gauss rifle at the turret, pieces flew of it as the incoming missile dissolved into a cloud of shrapnel which bounced of his suit’s armour. The missile launcher blew with an orange glow through the fog as the next reloading round detonated prematurely. “Time to get out of here” thought Grundy as he triggered his jump jets. The situation map in his HUD showed he was lagging behind his squad the nearest over half a kilometre in advance and to the right of him.
The attack on the alien complex itself went in covered by a fog of evaporating hydrocarbons and a methane drizzle, but was an anticlimax. There were a few automated AP laser and missile emplacements that were easily neutralised by the 7th Cavalry’s gauss rifles, HVMs and indirect fire support weapons. When the MI reached the active installations they found only automated tracking stations and a central control bunker that controlled the dozens of maintenance automata scattered around the complex. The listening post was otherwise as deserted as the alien city. Analysis by attached technical experts thought that the tracking stations could easily be utilised by the EDA. It turned out it was an easy task to switch off and disconnect the automated control systems and integrate the tracking stations with EDA equipment. Investigation of the storage silos on the base located 1000 tonnes each of the TN elements and a stockpile of what appeared to be maintenance supplies. A more significant find was a stockpile of 1000 missiles identical to the ones that had rained down on Earth, as fresh as the day they were manufactured and as deadly.

Before the Okinawa left to start transporting Engineering Brigades to Titan to start clearing the “sand” from Xanadu City it landed the Elliot Lambert Xenology team to begin their investigations. The CLEs Anshan and Luyang remained in orbit over the new colony as guard ships.
EDA, Earth.The EDA Resource Commission announced that the mining operation on Callisto was to be expanded to four complexes. In addition a Geology Team lead by Commander Sam Peacock, former CO of the EDAV Vasco Da Gama will be deployed to Titan to make sure the orbital survey did not miss any viable deposits.
Production of a number of pre-fabricated Astrodromes has been completed and thought will now be given to their deployment. It is almost certain one or two will be deployed at Mars and Titan.
Africa & The Middle EastA combined African and Middle Eastern research group led by Ajuma Murugi announces they have mastered the basics of TN technology. This is a bitter blow for the EDA, as the African Middle Eastern countries can now make use of all the TN technology that was leaked to them last year by the Islamic block after a massive security failure at the EDA research institutes.
21st March EDADiplomatic relations between the EDA and the Islamic Block has further deteriorated and are entering a hostile phase. Alert status of the armed forces has been increased one level to Condition Orange.
April 202711th April EDAEDA Ground Forces Command announced that the 14th Engineering Brigade Arrived on Titan to begin work on clearing sand from the alien city and help the Xenology team with their investigations.

September 2027The harvest was the best since before the apocalypse years but the approaching winter would claim yet more lives as the blizzards started unseasonably early.
18th September. EDA.EDA sensors detected three more FAC of the Falakhon class leaving the Islamic Block orbital ‘yard.
23rd September. EDA Security Council.The EDA Security Council was in session with the Chair being held by Director Karamchard. The agenda had covered such items as distribution of food supplies around the World and alleged inequalities, industrial production, procurement of new ships for the Navy, R&D, foreign relations and other relatively mundane issues. They had now come to Any Other Competent Business, where the Secretary General Zinoviev had issued the synopsises of two reports received by tight beam from Titan earlier that morning authored by the Elliot Lambert Xenology Team. The Council members were absorbed in reading the contents.

We have successfully deciphered the language and writings of the builders of the deserted city of Xanadu on Titan. The builders were a species that was vaguely humanoid, gracile but with distinct reptilian features and two opposable digits on their two foremost limbs. They were skilled toolmakers.
They were not native to Titan and enjoyed a considerably higher temperature than that of Titan in their native environment and could possibly even have possessed an oxygen-based metabolism. We have been unable to determine whether their genetics were DNA based.
It is also apparent from the Builders records that they thought nothing of travelling from one star to another. The fact they had colonies in several other star systems means they had an interstellar propulsion system! Clues to this interstellar drive may still be contained within the city.The political organisation of this race called itself the Chapineria Imperium. They possessed TN technology, much considerably advanced on our own, possibly as much as five technological levels above ours. At their height they had major planetary colonies in at least half-a-dozen star systems and minor colonies in a dozen more. The records we have found closest to the time of the evacuation seem to indicate they were in conflict with another Interstellar Power employing automated warships equipped with advanced technology to which they had no counter, they were a peaceful race and had not developed much in the way of weaponry on their way to the stars. Their weapons don’t seem much advanced on our own. We estimate this happened some five or six thousand years ago.
The city was abandoned in the face of encroaching enemy warships, the populace evacuated to other systems thought to be more secure. The evacuation was hurried but not rushed, the large majority of the facilities and installations were mothballed before the inhabitants left perhaps in the hope they would one day return. Another reason for the abandonment of the City without a fight could be the depletion of the TN mineral deposits, as our geological survey has found none, however a number of the mothballed installations appear to be deep core mining facilities. The City Builders may have regarded it as not worth fighting over a colony that no longer had any strategic importance, but had insufficient time or freighter capacity to move the installations to a new location.
We have, as we said earlier been able to understand their hieroglyphics and records. Thus we can work out how the facilities and installations operated. Further we can access their computers and IT systems many of which are still operational and even insert translation programmes.
We believe there are approximately 1,267 facilities, installations and storage silos are in good enough condition to attempt their recovery and
which could possibly be made fully operational again! We think the Engineering Brigades already present on Titan can be used to reactivate much of the City.

This installation was an automated Deep Space Tracking station designed to monitor most of the inner and outer Solar System, also provided with limited maintenance supplies. There is no evidence whatsoever to hint that it was intended to be anything but an automated installation. In contrast to Xanadu there is no trace of any living quarters or supplies that may have been associated with such. The base was maintained by a central processing unit using robotic servitors to keep the base clear of the encroaching “sand” and for other required maintenance duties and repairs. There was a minor defence capability but it was not designed to resist a determined attack by even a small force.
Our first conclusion is that the builders of this installation are very different to the City Builders of Xanadu. The dimensions of the passageways, rooms and the placement of controls are all wrong, the command interfaces have no commonality and the CPU uses an entirely difference logic structure and programming language.
It was built by yet another species. There is no guide to their appearance contained within this facility. The evidence indicates it was built some two or three thousand years later than the City of Xanadu.
From our interrogation of the CPU it is evident that the facility was only recently fully activated. Prior to that it was in maintenance mode. We can determine that it was activated by an external signal at 10:30 on 11th January 2025. This puts in right in the middle of the battle with the Intruders.
Thus we must surmise that this is an Intruder Installation. This appears to be confirmed by the missiles found stockpiled here, which have identical characteristics to those the Intruder vessels used against our ships and bombarded the Earth with.
We have far less in the way of material to go on, but the CPU does have some information within and again some of it is regarding automated warships attacking them and this installation was designed to monitor the Solar System for these vessels in particular. The response of the Intruders was to build their own automated warships and carry the fight to those they termed the Precursors. There is insufficient evidence to determine if the Intruders or Precursors were the same automated warships that threatened the Chapineria Imperium or whether it was yet another race.
There are log dumps from passing warships and they seem to have set up regular patrol lines, but of late these visits have become more and more infrequent as though ships were failing to complete their patrol circuits. The previous Intruder incursion was at least 1000 years ago and may even have been the same ships.
However it is apparent that the Intruder warships had some form of interstellar drive. We cannot say whether it was the same type as that of the City Builders.
23rd September 2027
Having given the Council members time to absorb the short reports Director Karamchard brought the meeting to order. His first question was could the EDA defend Titan and these precious resources. Secretary General Zinoviev replied that there was little possibility that any Earthly power could prevent the EDA holding Titan, he was then forced to admit that if there was another alien incursion, be it Intruder or Precursor then there would be little chance of prevailing against such forces with our current strength and deployments. The EU ambassador reminded the Council that there were five Astrodromes awaiting assembly and some these could be sent to Titan and fighter squadrons took less time to build than spaceships.
The startling revelation that there was an interstellar drive and at least two races had discovered such a system was electrifying. Mankind could escape the confines of the Solar System; however it was plainly an unfriendly place out there. The Intruder wrecks were noted as a possible source of information on this fabled propulsion system. The decision was taken to keep building the Gomati II class until improved sensors and propulsion systems became available when a larger class of ships would be initiated. As soon as the new Magneto-plasma drive technology became available final design and construction of the Hurricane F2 and Atlantique Mk II would commence. In the meantime Titan would be put off limits to all but EDA ships. The EDAV Wasp and Yorktown were to reinforce the guard squadron. The motion to transfer the entire Battle Fleet to Titan from Mars was defeated. The Engineering Brigades on Titan were instructed to begin to attempt the revival of the Xanadu facilities and take special note of any mention of an interstellar propulsion system.
World Free States.Nakhoda Sevom Arezoo Ebrahimi had made the jump from employee to contractor in the land of opportunity. He now ran Nakhoda Cleaning Services. He managed to tender and win the Kennedy Space Centre cleaning contract from his previous employer. On the back of the security clearances for that he had bid for other government and armed services cleaning contracts. In particular he had bid on some of the West Coast contracts. One of the plum ones he wanted had come his way. He now held the contract for part of the Naval Postgraduate School, and in particular the contracts for the Wayne E Meyer Institute of Systems Engineering, the Remote Sensing Centre, the Cebrowski Institute for Innovation and Information Superiority, the Centre for Joint Services Electronic Warfare and the Spacecraft Research and Design Centre, all located in Monterey, California. Now he could employ his team to systematically bug computers and communication channels. This was beginning to pay dividends as the first returns came in. The latest was fire control speed rating 2000 km/s. As long as no one wondered how he could afford to bid so low and still make a profit he was in the clear.
24th September EDAThe Earth Defence Authority Navy today declared the Saturnian system of moons off limits and any vessel trespassing into that system would face summary destruction.

MarsThe population of Mars passed the Three million mark, however, the colony is still desperately short of manpower. The Maintenance facilities and fuel refineries could both use another 3.5 million workers.
4th October. EDA, Titan.The 16th Engineering Brigade failed to recover the abandoned installation assigned to it.
Captain Matthews inserted the data stick into the control console, or at least what he thought was the control console. Thirty seconds later lights began to flicker on the board in front of him, orange, gold, blue, purple, some stayed black to his optics, displays lit up with complex multihued hieroglyphics scrolling across them. The building quivered; there was a scream like a tortured catthat set teeth on edge followed by the sound of shearing hardened duranium alloy. Pieces of building began to flake off as the installation continued to vibrate. Loud creaking and groaning noises issued from the failing structure. Captain Matthews opened his unit com channel “OK people, its time to leave, pronto!” Matthews sprinted as fast as his suit would let him to the drop shaft, he ignored the ladder secured at its edge and jumped into the shaft. 20 feet from the bottom he triggered his jets, he was enveloped in a cloud of sticky “sand” and dust. He landed hard but nothing broke. He made the street level exit, last one out. There was a muffled crash behind him, he was engulfed in a cloud of dust and “sand”, larger pieces of the installation spattered off his armour as the facility imploded. “Sergeant, roll call” went out over the Brigade command channel. Captain Matthews thought “Oh, what fun to be an engineer, scratch one building” as his men sounded off. 10th October, TitanThe 16th Engineering Brigade failed to recover the abandoned installation assigned to it.

A conference was called to review the disappointing results of the first five attempted reactivations of the alien facilities. Various tweaks were made to the Trojan programme used to take over the alien CPUs and control systems with one or two possible errors removed. There was also an attempt to select facilities in better condition, the climate of Titan having taken its toll through the thousands of years the buildings had lain derelict. Elliot Lambert admitted that they had perhaps been overly optimistic in their assessment of facilities which they thought could be recovered and had perhaps included buildings that were very marginal with respect to recovery. The population of Earth had fallen to 6.26 billion as the radiation took its deadly toll. The only thing that kept it together was the solidarity of the nations being welded into the EDA, and of course the physical threat of the patrolling soldiers. The Islamic Block was struggling and failing to restore its industry to pre-apocalypse levels while the new TN power of Africa and the Middle East worked furiously to bootstrap themselves up the TN ladder.
