Her.  Just realized, I got the game a few days ago, and it's the version 5. 54. .  That might be why my F12 is my task group orders screen. .

I don't see a "View Race Details" menu, or window, anywhere?

It's under the empires tab in the main bar right after the F-keys.
The hotkey is Ctrl+f2.

It's really nice too, I always seem to get John Sheridan as the representing face for the human race as a Babylon 5 fan that makes me happy.

view race details > theme > pick a new theme, many other things can be changed there as well.

If I'm not mistaken, the function doesn't really pick a random name from the list but goes from the first to the last entry in the a list. When the list is exhausted, it doesn't start at the beginning but throws an error.

That would probably explain why all the systems I find are either called London or Manchester...

Yeah I guess I just ran out.  So my next question is, how do I choose a different theme? Or will I just have to use the random rename, or manual rename?

I was using the United States class theme.  I hadn't used too many names, I don't think. .  Would it really run out so fast?

Did you have the game design ships and tech for you? That can chew up a large chunk of names.

As a suggestion, Maybe Steve can have it recycle the names when it hits the end of the list and tack a I, II, II, etc onto it.

There are 38 class names for the US theme

I had the same problem. Just use Random name first, then use auto rename.

Some themes have a lot less names than others. Which theme were you using?

So, I've been playing my first game for a while, and I've stumbled into a relatively minor, but still a little annoying issue.

When I opened up the Class Design window to design a larger jump-ship to jump my freighters, I made a new class, and decided to use the Auto-Rename function.  An error popped up, stating: "No New Name Found - Please select a new racial theme if you want additional class names. " Now. .  I only have a few ship classes used, so I don't understand how there could be no more. . ?
