I would say that Bofur played a noteworthy role along with the other more recognizable dwarves, but I concur with you for the most part.
I saw it not only in 3D but in the proper high frame rate, which was absolutely wonderful. Rivendell's backdrops felt a bit off with it, but other than that the increased clarity combined with the modest screen-depth were, as said, wonderful.
As for the music, I entered the theatre extremely skeptical of the shortened dwarven chant. I'm still a bit sad it got cut down to a mere two verses, but Howard Shore using its tune as the dwarven leitmotif more than made it up to me. The Great Goblin's snippet of Goblintown was also a nice touch.
