Yeah I have same problem, for main fighting force I start with mix of regiments and battalions and I lack enough commanders and if there are commanders they have low stat in Ground Combat Command Rating.

Being able to multi-select formation and set the position would be a nice feature... If I where you I would add that to the suggestion thread and hopefully Steve will pick up on it and implement it.

I just wonder where you find all the military leaders to lead that army?!?

I build my armies from company level for high quality armies and battalion level for garrison armies. There simply is not enough commanders otherwise and I usually have allot of academies.

What i do is: I make formations from Company up. Except for Marine Strike Groups, then its platoon level, but other than that, it is just companies and above. That makes them more sturdy and i just write it down in a notepad what the actual companies compositions are, for roleplay flavour.

Unfortunately current system is not aimed at such complex formation. You can try to post some ideas for improvements in suggestions forum and maybe Steve will flesh it out in future update.

Yeah, but when you have 300 Platoons in 50 companies in 10 Regiments it gets tiresome to do that individually.

You can use Select Field Position checkboxes, if the platoons have formation that is directly superior to the platoons. Just select the checkbox and then set position for the superior formation.

If the platoons operate independently, then unfortunately the is no way to select position for several at once. In this case I would temporarily assign them to bigger formation set the Field Position using the checkbox and the use Clear Hiearchy to make them independent.
