Steve said it would add it back at some point.

If you go through the buglist of 1.12 you will notice that it has been indeed added back as one user had to report a bug with ground units combat and he was exploring some ruins when the bug occurred!

It seems to be a bit bugged at the moment as Tikigod mentioned in different thread that they spawned for him on planet that had fully excavated ruins.

Do you actually want to know if aliens can pop out of ruins? Or would you rather just start poking around and get to be surprised if it turns out they can?

True indeed! I will figure it out and won't read the spoilers further down.  Thanks ;)

Precursor troops would occasionally burst out of ruins in VB6. I've never seen it in C#, but nothing in the changelogs says it was changed.

Read at your own risk:

I have never had aliens come bursting out of ruins but I guess it could be cool. Though I would want ruins to have a more serious impact on your empire's development if there is a degree of risk. More permanent upgrades like compressed fuel storage or advanced railguns. Right now almost all of your ruins will give you some tech speed ups and free installations.

Also you might notice that most ruins already have some form of alien guardians.

So I found  a Destroyed Outpost on Mercury.  Apparently it's a rare thing to happen so I want to get  the most fun out of it.  Also, it is a opportunity for me to learn everything I need to learn about Xenoarchaeology, unit class design, formation templates, and hopefully aliens.

While I'm learning about the unit class design and the formation templates it got me thinking about one of my favorite TV-shows ever --Stargate SG-1.  I started dreaming a little bit and was wondering if it is possible to "suddenly" find aliens in/around the ruins I surveyed while in orbit? Is it possible? Or is it rather safe to study the ruins?

If it is safe, it may be a nice suggestion to put this kind of feature into the game.  What do you guys think?
