sorry to nekro the thread, but I rescued a few alien lifepods an unloaded them to my colonies.
They do show up in the population summary screen (below the missile stockpile).
I still don't see how they benefit me (apart from the BG autopsy project).
Any idea?

Thanks
Thomas
They don't provide any benefit, and there's nothing you can do with them.  I don't think you can even delete them.  You get the info from interrogating them as soon as you rescue them from their life pods.  I believe there was more to do with them back in VB6, but it was either cut or is not working.

Finally, after the research, I can now read the environmental tolerance of this ancient species (under intellgence panel). However I still do not understand if it the tolerance of the precursor or the one from the previous aliens.

The info is for the species that lived on the planet and left the alien ruins, not for the crew of the robot spaceships (which, being robot spaceships, don't really have crews).

Wow, now I understand. You found "the precursors" as ancient ones. Founders of roboships, ok thank you!  :)

Guys, I've researched an alien autopsy=precursor .

What am I supposed to do now? I cannot find any info in race comparison and intelligence window.

How exactly you managed to unlock that research? I killed many precursor ships but they leave nothing behind to pick up and cut open. They are AI ships and they only leave wrecks. If there is a way to it I'd like to know beacuse we didn't identified that race officially eventhough I know what they are. :)

It happed after I sent a xenoarcheology unit on the planet. They managed to find corps of the aliens were living there before the precursors  :P
Then it unlocked the possibility to research the autopsy on Biology field.

That's a good question. I had the same doubts when I rescue some alien pods. I don't see them in any info data, neither in the ship cargo, neither on planet where I dropped them. Would be cool, if we could communicate with these entities  ;D :D

It does take a certain amount of time (production cycles).

Aliens autopsy allows knowing what are these tolerances of temperature, gravity, etc You can see it in the window diplomacy, after having looked for it in biology / genetics

What is autopsy but very in-depth interrogation

Technically it's a necropsy when done on a different species.

I *THINK* interrogations are still a thing. I've had intelligence updates after rescuing enough enemy survivors. I didn't get a discrete event message tying the two together, though. Also, I don't think the game tracks POWS post-interrogation anymore, as I've been dropping enemy crew on one of my mining colonies and I don't see them showing up anywhere (for example, in the "stockpile" tab or as a tiny population). Kinda undermines my idea of eventually building a Labor Camp for POWs.

In the Database something is tracking POW. So could be already there for a future patch

Can confirm Autopsy

It will be a Biology Research project
