I discovered a few extra wingdings and colours can be used to add some variety

That is just beautiful.
It's like ASCII art that's gone highbrow.

I use the labeling tool to keep track of notable scientists, officers, events and so on.

Totally agree. And now you have created a need to me, hahahaa. I have reordered the map and... wow, it is much more inmersive.

Thanks a bunch for the inspiration and the idea :)

I love the labelling tool and actually, I am one of the people that would like the map features expanded.

I love that map!! Did you do it manually? I like a lot how you make the "regions" of the space and you placed the systems.

Yes, I always spend a lot of time on the map, it helps me remember things. During your game map can change drastically and I like that I have to reshape the known space from time to time, it allows me to feel the exploration more.

I understand those who for sanity leave everything as it is, but I cannot stand the connections from one end to another, everything must have an order!

I just use it to remember what spoilers I found in each system, because I keep forgetting, and the fleet you need to deal with Swarm is different to the fleet you need for precursors.

Primarily I use it to label survey ship and JP monitor positions like yourself. Occasionally I will label an interesting region of space with a flavorful name, but I don't usually do this early on as the galactic map can change quite a lot as you explore it.

I have recently discovered the map label tool (yeah, after 8 years playing I discovered it NOW), and I'm totally amazed and in love with it:

I am including a label for each survey ship (to keep a track what was its last position, so when it comes back to overhaul it can continue its mission later). For example, Stellar has not any fleet on it, because it came back to overhaul.

I added a new label "Raza Alienígena" (it is spanish, the translation is Alien Race) to locate the region controlled by a NPR (for now just stabilished points)

And, also, I have added a new label for the sectors I am going to create (for now only Sol Sector).

Do you use this tool? How?

Finally, you will notice that all systems have a number before the name of the system. This is because I want to know exactly the position of each system, being Sol the 00 :)
