I think it's a good idea, especially for tech that work together, like the various beam weapon fire controls and systems, and missile components

Is there a tech tree anywhere?  If not, I will be happy to create one if someone will point me to a source of the information.  I would rather not play hide and seek with instant research points to figure out how things fit together.

Any help will be appreciated.

If you go to the "Research" tab of the F2 screen, you can click on the "All projects" radio button, which will tell you all the available projects - the progression is pretty obvious in most places.  The downside is that you used to be able to see the prerequisites, but now you can't.  The only place this is likely to severely bite you is in engines - for every level of engine tech, you need to research the corresponding power-plant tech in order to unlock the next level.  I think some of the EW techs might be confusing this way as well.

Someone had started one. Once. And if it still exists, it is sadly out of date.

Probably the closest place for a tech tree at the moment is on the wiki, at this link http://aurorawiki.pentarch.org/index.ph ... ed_Systems

As you can see, it is not complete.
