addendum:

if you have a single ship in the TG, with a single launcher and only geosurvey drones the 'launch missile at' command from the task group command panel using a planet as target works quite well.

the ship will close up to the planet, probably without taking into consideration the endurance of the drone; I've not tested the command with multiple ship/multiple launchers/multiple warheads, but if limited at the single ship scenario is usable.

can a drone traverse a jumpgate?

Theoretically yes, though not until Steve gets around to writing the code for it.  At current, there is no way to designate a target on the other side of a jump gate.

ok, so I've to optimize the drone endurance for a single trip run in the solar system.

I've two more questions about drone usage, I don't know if digging this thread is appropriate but it's strictly on drone usage topic:

can a drone does a geo survey on multiple planets placing multiple waypoints?

can a drone traverse a jumpgate?

No in both cases - there is no multi point targeting for uncrewed vehicles in Aurora at this time, and I highly doubt that there will be jump capable drones due to the experience of massed minefields/SBMHAWKs attrition battles that plagued Starfire WP assaults

You can place waypoints on the system map (waypoint tab)
Put one 400 mkm from the planet, order ship to "move to waypoint".
Select the planet on system map --> On the waypoint tab, click on "Last" this will put the waypoint on the planet and the waypoint will move with the planet. otherwise, the waypoint will be left behind when the planet moves on its path.
Now you can launch your drone at the waypoint.

I tried 'extended orbit 140000k km' around the planet, followed by 'launch missile at' command.
Instead of orbiting the planet at 140000k km, the ship moved in normal (close) orbit of the planet, and fired a missile at the sun :S

I'm lost here

I have a scout drone, with over 400m km range, I want to launch it at a planet from a distance of 400m km.
I have a missile launcher linked to a fire control, and loaded it with the scout drone, in the combat window.

I can't figure out how to launch it. My fire control does not have 400m km range, because I believe I read that for launching scout drones at planets, you don't need the fire control or active scanners.

Can someone explain me please, how to launch the thing?
Let's say I'm at the entry jump-point, 1b km away from the planet.
What do I have to do, to move within 400m km of the planet, stop and launch the drone from there? (Step by step)
