The closest you can get to mothballing is to build a large hangar PDC and dock the ship inside of it. Make sure to leave room for flight berths for the crew of the docked ship.

Making this huge PDC with insanely large hangar and calling it "Museum of Spaceflight" sounds like an awesome idea!

your geo survey ship doesn't have to be maintained so you can just park over a planet. I usually put them back in whatever TG the shipyard uses if I don't immediately scrap them.

That's only the case if it is a commercial design. While geosurvey ships have the potential to be commercial designs, they don't have to be.

Without you still pay maintenance costs for the ship, in the hangar it's free, and PDC's don't have maintenance schedules AFAIK.
I should have been clearer in my quote.  I was referring to making sure there were enough bunks for the crew.

Do you actually need this if it's on an inhabited planet?  The constant shore leave should make it a non-problem.

Park it in orbit around a colony.

There is no mothball function in the game anymore.

I want to retire my Geological Survey Vessel, but I may want to use it later.  How can I do this?
