Dump a row of armor for MSP again :D

Many beam threats have Meson weapons in any case:

*armor won't help
*but engineering spaces will help repair damage taken from meson/shock

Thx, nope the turrets are just for FACs or faster ships, I-110Cs will take care of any missiles while away from the main fleet or together with the Hipper-class while with the fleet. But for the nebula mission missiles are of no concern anyway.

And I just saw that the nebula speed is just 625 per armor,  so the 3.2a would just be able to move at 7500 in there.

The G3. 2a is better because of the speed.  I'm curious what you want your turrets to achieve? If you are using them for fighter defense, they are probaby about right.  If you want them to act as a missle defense asset, they are probably no better than a 15cm or 10cm laser but they are heavier and need more power.  If you switched your current lasers to 15cm lasers you could probably get another turret on there or increase your speed.  Both would help against missles.  Also, you should also try to increase your fire control tracking speed if you want your turrets to help protect you against missles.  Just my humble opinion.

Any mistakes you have seen in the earlier post?

In addition I would like to know which of the 2 new beam design options you would prefer since I will have to visit a couple of robo-spoilers inside a nebula fairly soon:

more Speed, but at the cost of 1 quad turret and 1 row of armor (inside the nebula would be limited to armor x 675), so at least for this operation this design would operate a bit below its max speed.

Just a scaled up Mk3.2 (roughly 2.5x) with a bit more armor and 1 additional FC vs. enemy FACs

Since the other yards are still needing additional tonnage the Hipper/Deutschland stay at 8k for now, but the Hipper got an improved turret/FC and I traded some range for armor since I found some spoilers inside a nebula.

Not that sure about the armor/range on this one, a back-up R1 sensor might be an option, what do you think?

And finally the beam FAC got a new FC as well, bringing tracking speed up to ship speed in addition to better range:

Thx, good find about the MSP, since I havent had to train a 3.2 ship yet, I have not run into the training problem and thought I could get away with 2x max repair and additional supplies within the fleet.

Exchange 1 armor for more MSP since the ships should be fairly well protected except for the occasional leaker anyway?

the main thing that concerns me is the low msp on the capital ships, especially for vessels hosting parasites.

The Bismark in particular is in a bad  place, having 500 msp to a 250 repair max with an IFR of 5% means of a given group of Bismarks some will almost certainly maint-fail before the year is up.

The general poor reliability will also make training difficult and expensive in terms of additional MSP that need to be produced and used up.

p.s. protip

If you put all the - say - bomber parasites in a given CBG in the same group in Naval Organization you can use that to quickly launch them all given the tools in the NO tab.

Maybe I should have mentioned that this is a 1,000mTN start with lots of the tech from salvaging. Essentially those carriers are designs that were needed before. First I needed a small bomber carrier for fighter sized bombers, later a carrier without magazines for gauss PD fighters followed by a larger bomber carrier and finally a flagship, while building new naval yards and doing expansions. This is just the 13th year in game, I simply havent had the time or yards to consolidate the designs, but once the conquered yards are fully operational this will change.

In addition I want to have 3 complete fleets before essentially shutting down most of my yards for major expansions (only 2 yards above 8kt here at the moment and even getting just those smaller yards operational prevented me from doing anything except largely focussing on them, without the salvagers I would be still at ion engines at best).

Since I like my fleet train to be kept with the fleet the escorts speed is only wasted while guarding troop transports. Beam fighter carrier might have been a better designation for them, but since those fighters job mainly is guarding the fleet, escort does not sound overly wrong to me.

Initial comment: Why 4 different carrier models with very similar roles and identical speed?

I would probably have expanded a few more slipways and fielded maximum two different designs instead of trying to manage the complexity of 4 different hangar sizes and how to fit different flightgroups into different Carriers.

If I fielded escort carriers I would also operate them in an escort carrier role  ( cover the fleet train, oilers and slower troop transports) instead of the same role as a fast fleet carrier.

Hi,

I think I reached the mid-game phase in my latest game here and would love to have some feedback for my currently fielded/planed (mainly accomodations for the new beam fighter) combat fleets.

After having just conquered one of the 3 NPRs in my game and gotten some laser tech (2x range, 2x damage) it seems like a good time to put a bit more emphasis on beam weapons than before, engine tech is at IC fusion atm.

My fleets are carrier battlegroups (CBG), supported by 2 tanker/ammo ships, 1 fairly stealthy passive sensor ship and 1 active sensor ship, with the stealth ship scouting ahead before the main fleet enters any system. The main fleets purpose is to simply overwhelm the opposition or otherwise stay out of the system, due to this stealth is no concern there.

The main tactic is launching bombers guarded by gauss fighters and laser FACs, guided by sensor fighters, while the fleet follows more slowly with no active sensors except for very short ranges (R1 - not that it will really matter with those huge termal emissions). The bombers are to engage enemy major ships/planet defenses, then head back to the fleet to refuel/rearm and stay with the fleet afterwards to provide a very heavy alpha strike.

Overall each battlegroup of the current revision of the Prussian Navy consists of 1 flag carrier, 2 carriers, 2 light carriers, 4 escort carriers, 4 missile destroyers and 4 escort destroyers (1 missile, 3 gauss). At the moment there are 2 active CBGs with a 3rd currently under construction/training:
