The Edelweiss is effectively a swarm ship.  I'm mostly preparing it for whenever the NPRs finally build fighters! With that in mind, I made some changes to the base fighter.

The Edelweiss 1. 01 changelog:
Changed to . 1 month deployment
Added extra Gauss cannon
Threw away most of the armor.

If you wish to go the fighter route here are some things you could do.
1) A reduced size lazer (of 10cm focus)
2) Size 1-3 box launchers
3) Keep it small as possible. I usually make 125 toned drones(light fighters) (more useful next update), ~250 ton fighters and interceptors, and 500 ton heavy fighters and bombers.
4) While I do like armoring my fighters, when they are that fast (and with that armament) they really don't need it.
5) Put your deployment time to 0.1 months. Doing this will reduce crew requirement (that's why others are able to have more weapons and/or utilities without having a large "fighter" crew).
Notes on what you have (and what others said); Despite ECM wrecking your FC, it doesn't matter to much, as a swarm of these can still do damage up close. Only 1 GC? I do have at least 2 on my designs (for rp mainly) but those are never the sole or main weapon system (even at that tech level). Your engines are fine as they are honestly. I do agree as the C is a flop, wait to fit sensors on a larger or dedicated craft and/or buff up your resolution

Huh. Fighter with very-very small gauss cannon. I'm not fond of that kind of design, but it should work in huge swarms.

1. 100 tons? What's the point in making small craft THAT small?
2. You could use faster engine.
3. 8% accuracy is terrible, and like Erik said, ECM will likely wreck your to-hit chances.
4. What tech level is this? Gas AM drive, gauss with ROF 8... That's pretty late-game.

As for C, it fails at AWAC duty because 'early warning' will come too late to do anything. I'd recommend designing dedicated ship or installing bigger (one, there's not much space for two on fighter) sensor on this.

ECM will hose your fire controls badly.

And if the C goes pop, your others won't be able to see anything to shoot.

Should I tack on some ECCM then? I generally intend for this fighter to be as far from the front lines as possible.  It's more of a convoy-escort-escort role than anything else.

Howdy! Recently I started a late-game empire and I've been designing craft over the past few days.  As I have limited time (Re: Ten minutes) I can only post two of my craft right now.  The Edelweiss and the Edelweiss C.  The Edelweiss is my empire's main light fighter, while the C variant serves as an AWAC, light fighter, and picket ship for small convoys.

I am still, rather unfortunately, new to the game.  Any advice, tips, and tricks would be nice right about now.  Any criticism on the Edelweiss would also be appreciated.
