The Tartarus Montes class Planetary Defense Monitors were originally intended to defend the colony on Five from the Colonist?s high speed raiders.  Unfortunately for the Strug on Five, the monitors were not finished in time to participate in the final war, and the colony on Five was largely destroyed as a result.

Two units of this class were completed after the war, the Strug Home, and the Eye.  Both units remain in service, although their mission has changed since the war.  Current plans are for the monitors to be used to defend the warp points in the Home System if any alien race threatens invasion.

The Tharsis Montes class escort cruisers were designed to escort Strug ships while they were within missile range of the Colonist ground batteries on The Sister.  Their design is similar to that of the Olympus Mons orbital bases, and is similar in capabilities to the bases.

The Flight II refit involved replacing the ship?s three twin 10 cm laser turrets with heavier 12 cm laser turrets and upgrading the ship?s reactors.  This upgrade parallels the upgrade for the Olympus Mons bases.

Six units of this class are in service as of August of 922.  Four of the six act as escorts to the Eye and Strug Home, while the other two are assigned to the two Escort Groups.

GB Standard Missile Launcher  (2)    Missile Size 6    Rate of Fire 225
GB Missile Fire Control  (1)    Range: 800k km

The Aeolis Mensae gunboats were designed in response to the intelligence received from the Colonist survivors of the last war.  The information imparted by the survivors of the universe outside the Home System was grim, and warned that other races are almost always implacably hostile.

The gunboats and their mother ships are the Strug response to this information.  The gunboats are intended to chase down and destroy any ship discovered by the survey groups, if it first refuses attempts to communicate.

Twenty-three units of this class are in service as of 922.

GB Thermal Sensor  (1)     Sensitivity 8     Detect Sig Strength 1000:  8m km

The standard gunboat hull is too small to cram in everything needed for a fully capable warship, thus sacrifices had to be made.  The SC version of the standard gunboat remedies the worst of the sacrifices by providing the gunboat squadrons with sensor capability.

Eight units of this class are in service as of 922.  No further expansions of this class are currently planned.

Fuel Capacity 400,000 Litres    Range 270.0 billion km   (1041 days at full power)

Thermal Sensor, Small (1)     Sensitivity 32     Detect Sig Strength 1000:  32m km

The Vedra Valles class mother ship was designed to allow the gunboats to accompany the survey groups.  Attempts were made to squeeze in a fourth gunboat, but the 8,000 ton hull could not accommodate the additional gunboat.  As it is, the mother ship is hideously vulnerable, and is not intended to come close to any enemy.

Typically, mother ships are escorted by one or more escort cruisers and a scout.  Eight units of this class are in service as of 922.

The Flight II upgrades were undertaken to counter feared improvements in Colonist Planetary Assault Missiles.  Strug fears were proved valid in the last war, and the Flight II bases performed well against armored Colonist planetary missiles.

At its height, Orbital Defense Command boasted twenty-three Flight II version Olympus Mons bases.  Since the final war with the Colonists, this number has been reduced to sixteen.

Orbital Defense Command is currently investigating the possibility of giving its bases some offensive capability by upgrading at least some of the turrets to 15 cm lasers, or larger.

This design is classed as a Planetary Defence Centre

The Syria Planum class PDC?s were built in response to increasing fears about aggression from the Colonists.  The first several wars proved that these bases couldn?t launch larger enough salvoes to penetrate the Colonist?s defense, leading to the Vastitas Borealis class PDC?s.

The last remaining Syria Planum class PDC?s were decommissioned in 920.

This defensive PDC was designed in response to an analysis of Colonist capabilities that demonstrated significant weaknesses in Strug defenses.  The meson weapons of these bases performed extremely well during the last war, and these bases were instrumental in insuring the safety of Strug Home.

As of 922, nine PDC?s of this class have been built on Strug Home.

The Vastitas Borealis PDC?s are the successors to the older Syria Planum class PDC?s.  Their salvo size is three times as large, with only a slightly higher tonnage due to a reduction in armor protection.

Currently ten Vastitas Borealis PDC?s are in service.

This unit was designed prior to the interstellar age, before even the first war with the Colonists.  Given its slow speed and out-dated defense suite, the Survey Command is considering decommissioning the single unit of this class that survived the wars.

The Star class survey unit was designed in the years after the last war, and was intended to be a ?budget? survey unit.  The Survey Command has not been happy with the unwieldy nature of the Star class, as it does not have a jump drive of its own, and plans are being made to replace this design with a more capable jump surveyor design.

Three units of this class are currently in service.

The scout design is primarily intended to escort the Survey Groups and to probe newly discovered systems for intelligent life.  The ion engines used on this class were designed specifically for this unit, to make it harder to detect.

Three units of this class are currently in service.

This design is classed as a non-combatant for maintenance purposes

The Abalos Undae class was designed to clean up the numerous hulks left by the wars with the Colonists.  The cargo capacity was found to be insufficient for most salvaging purposes, so units of this class are often accompanied by freighters.

Two units of this class are currently in service.

This class was designed and built in the days after the end of the final war with the Colonists.  It wasn?t until then that the Strug realized that they would need some way to transport troops to The Sister.

Two units of this class are in service.
