I created and copied data from this board to a 3.0 phpbb installation. This is located at http://aurora.pentarch.org/phpbb3

Look it over when you have time, and let me know if this is something we should upgrade to.

Couple points.
There is no RSS or Email Digests on the ver3.0.
The 2.0x versions will be officially obsoleted around 2/1/2009.
Your current logins and such should work there. (I hope)
Looks good! If you decided to move to v3.0, it wouldn't be a problem for me, assuming that all the existing posts could be copied over to the new board.

Steve

There is a conversion tool. When things get to the point where I'm comfortable with no loss of functionality between 2.x and 3.0, I'll update. I'll make an announcement prior and then lock the 2.0 board so the conversion process captures all the posts.

When I did the current install, it took less than an hour for the conversion and mods, so I hope we all can survive that long ;)

Any comments on the 3.0 board would be appreciated.

I've found a couple of mods in development to replicate the RSS and Email digests functions (written by the 2.x authors).

Looks OK.  TBH it doesn't overly bother me, but
You're kind enough to sort the hosting and do the admin work, so if the new version makes your life easier...
I'm always moaning at work about management not listening to us techies and upgrading to the latest and supported version...

I say upgrade  :D

Well, I would like to keep the same levels of functionality that we currently have, which would include the RSS and Email Digests. So in my mind, those two mods are the minimum requirements before I upgrade anything.

One thing the 3.0 board allows (which I like a lot) is sub-forums. I'm thinking about those for mainly the fiction forums. Lock the forums that fiction is posted in to just the author, and provide a sub-forum for discussion.

An example of what I mean there can be found in the FLOP fiction forum in the 3.0 board.

That is a VERY handy function to have. I know, it took me 8 hours to install the mod and convert the themes to use it. But if yo see my site you will see why I consider it one of the best mods ever made for PHPBB2.

So I am very glad they include it in the basic 3.0 setup.

Cheers, ??rgr?mr
