Title: Any interest in a community game?
Post by: Drgong on April 03, 2016, 06:14:00 PM
I was thinking of a 2-3 team community game might be fun.

This is the basic concept I was thinking of.

1.  I would run the game, with a backup of the database on dropbox.
2.  I would take screenshots of the needed screens and post them, and take orders for commands.  Running 1 month or major event turns.   I am thinking on the lines of the famous "The coldest War" Community game.   Yes I know that means I will be doing a lot of work.
3.  Game would start as a Conventional start, but with Trans-Newtonian already researched.   To make the start more fun, I would give each side a extra 200 mines to make sure the minerals flow.
4.  I would play one side, then have 1-2 teams of board players, with the players voting in case consensus cannot be reached.   Or allow each person to run a specific area.  How it up to the players, but I would just ask that each team have some sort of clear way to make a final choice.  In addition, some sort of backups for key leaders if they are not around for a X-amount of time.
5.  The setting is 2-3 empires seeking the stars, and on there would be growth also on earth (for role playing well) with rewards of populations, Conventional industry, and the like.   I would playing the South African Free-state, letting players choose if they want to play something on the lines of the EU, North America, China, ect.  I want the players forming the teams to have some creativity.  However the idea of a cold war race for the stars is important.

So, is there anyone wanting to do this or shall I put this to the back-burner?

I would like to try playing a community game sometime, but with uni going on for me I'm not sure whether I can always find the time to pitch in when needed. But put me down for the time being and we'll see how things go.

I want to be aboard for this.  Used to play community games in Civilization a long time ago and it was great fun.

Well I want to wait and see how many people want to play, but 3 yeses and a part time means that should be enough to start a least a 2 side game, with the community as one team and me playing the other side.    ;D

How do i go about getting a subforum?   Steve?

This futuristic academy and meeting forum is run by master Luke(n).

I am also in if possible, and I'd want to side with AL here. :)

We have to clarify the rules in advance though. Like how voting works; do they get even votes, or is it maybe point based, depending on how high ranked some of your representative officers have risen. Or is it all just up to the team, but then there will be favor to more efficient ruling instead of realistic(=somewhat divided) and RP inciting?(though still ok. It just has to be clear how exactly.)

Okay, I will propose something - this isn't set in stone.
All the players are put into one team.

Council of 5 - A 5 person council votes to make the big choices - One top administrator, head of the Navy, Top Scientist, and two "At Large" seats.
This council votes on actions.  They can delegate powers as they see fit and organize other bodies or groups as needed (For example, a design board for ships), assign diplomats, and so on.
There would be a list of alternate in case one of the five members is out of town or otherwise unable to post.
All players are allowed to submit ideas or otherwise discuss plans.
Hopefully, for the most part, consensus on plans can be reached by negotiation.

Game start will be 800 million population, 25 research labs, and a extra 80 mines and 20 automines. (I will be boosting the mineral supply on earth, and a conventional start with Trans-Newtonian already researched)  Team will have one Naval and one commercial shipyard.

I will run the "other" side.   I do hope for some diplomatic play in the race to the stars.

Does this sound like a good proposal?

We will see.  I would prefer to have one well stocked team then two sparse teams that risk falling apart if 2-3 players get too busy to play.

So far we have

Team #0 - Drgong
Running the game and some sort of South African lead empire

Team #1
Panopticon
Shiwanabe
AL
Bughunter
Vandermeer

Perhaps boggo2300?

What do you want your empire to be?  UN? EU? North America? Totally up to you...

Team # 2
Right now empty

We will see how many players join up.  with 5-6 we will have just Teams 0 and 1,   If we get 10+ we might see if people want to play a team 2...

Red Dot, hmm? I hear Russia and Japan never signed a peace treaty after WW2, so technically the war never officially ended.(http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_aufsmaul.gif)

---
I'm okay with Russia, but I have to say I have no idea about their names, army structures or any possible lore and such, so that might impair what I can come up with in RP.(unless we just declare some "Neo-Russia" freely redefined phoenix state template that is)
Maybe I need to consult my actual communist DDR grandma on this? ;D

A Neo-Russia is fine,  Also communist soviets are fine.  Heck, if team 2 does not want to be china it can be a Russia-China alliance.  I want the players to generate this as part of the role playing of having actual players and not the cold NPR on the other side.    After all, I am playing a Afrikaner lead empire for the sole reason that I like Afrikaner names.

This is going to be the starting parameters for the game, but I will SM each Empire with the first Trans-Newtonian research so they have a blank state to begin research.

That will work well with Team 1 being the Russians.  :)

Team 0 - Free State Alliance (FSA)
Team 1 - Russian Confederation (Confed)
Team 2 - North American Union  (NAU)

Red Dot - new players will be placed in Team 2.   Also I hope that new players can join as the game goes on.  (Still some time away, have not heard from Luken on obtaining a subforum.

No Problem

Team #0 - Free State Alliance
Drgong (Admin)

Team #1  - Russian Confederation
Shiwanabe
AL
Bughunter
Vandermeer

Team # 2  - North American Union
Red Dot
Panopticon

When to comes to choices, I will have the teams vote on it.  (at least while the teams are five players or under. )

Thank you for the admin(s) who put together a Sub forum :)

To be honest, I don't really know much about their nomenclature either. But at least it would make for good banter between us and the westerners  ;)
Come, my good communist comrades; let us show these filthy capitalists the error of their ways!

The Russian Federations navy is actually pretty generic in rank and organisation.
Ranks;
michman is a Midshipman
sta'ršij michman is Senior Midshipman
mla'dšij lejtena'nt is a Junior Lieutenant
lejtena'nt is a Lieutenant (equivalent to USN Ensign)
sta'ršij lejtena'nt is a Senior Lieutenant (equivalent to a USN Lieutenant JG)
kapita'n-lejtena'nt is a Captain Lieutenant (equivalent to a USN Lieutenant)
kapita'n 3-go r'anga is a Captain 3rd Rank (equivalent to a USN Lieutenant Commander)
kapita'n 2-go r'anga is a Captain 2nd Rank (equivalent to a USN Commander)
kapita'n 1-go r'anga is a Captain 1st Rank (equivalent to a USN Captain)
ko'ntr-admira'l is a Rear Admiral (equivalent to a USN Commodore, or Rear Admiral lower half)
vi'tse-admira'l is a Vice Admiral (equivalent to a USN Rear Admiral, or Rear Admiral upper half)
admira'l is an Admiral (equivalent to a USN Vice Admiral)
admira'l flo'ta is an Admiral of the Fleet (equivalent to a USN Admiral)
Ma'ršal Rossi'jskoj Federa'cii is Marshall of the Russian Federation (formerly Marshall of the Soviet Union) is kind of equivalent to USN Admiral of the Fleet but is more the head of the entire Russian Military, and can be from any of the branches,  so far there has only been one, who came from the Army)

I'd love to join.  I'm pretty experienced with the game, but I've never played a pass-it-along style community game.  Toss me on whatever team needs people, but I'd very slightly prefer the NAU, just because it'd be easier for me to RP.

Good to hear.  AS a note, both teams have six players now.  New players will most likely have lesser roles then the players who have already joined.

Welcome!

Now here a question, do you want to play as the Russians or the North American Union?

http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?board=235.0

Is the main forum for the game.  You can post in the main directory, and once you choose your team let me know.  I will be out of pocket over the rest of the weekend, but I will get you officially joined up Monday or Sunday night.   Wednesday is the offical start of the game, as right now the teams are working on positions and how they will make internal choices.

At around 5 pm today or a little later I will add player to teams and put in the request for the board admin to give access to the private forums.  Since Erik is a busy man and is gracious enough to work with all of us in the community game, I don't want to bug him daily to add players.

EDIT: I will be busy later today, so I have submitted the names to Erik and for the new players please check in to see if you can see the sub-forum.

New players are welcome, but they will have to wait till next week for the next intake of new players.
