Had that happening over my lovely terraforming mars as well - up to the moment they nuked my ground forces to "help" with some robotic relics. Needless to say , my next action was about a year's worth of missiles launched at once - gave the martian colonists a nice firework show in the skies.

I've never run into any friendly, or even neutral, NPRs. They always answer my "Hello" with a full broadside of ASMs, usually to the detriment of some wayward geo or grav survey ship. If anyone does find a way to vacate friendlies, however, it would be good to know In case I find some 'friends' in the future. I don't care how chummy a foreign empire is, I wouldn't want them shacking up warships in my space.

I remember having the same problem in one of my games. Of course, this particular NPR had destroyed the very first ship I had sent into their system (geosurvey) so I was kinda planning on going "SURPRISE!" with a couple of Meson PDCs. If it wasn't for my corundium crunch combined with a new version or something coming out, I woulda done it too!

The very second ship I lost to hostile action was... A geosurvey ship carrying a diplomacy team. to a previously neutral/civilian NPR.

What is it about them that makes them such attractive targets? :D

The first ship I lost also was a geosurvey carrying a diplomatic team - didn't know they can work from home too.  But they shot it when had delivered its "freight" and was on his way home.   :) The team is still there, though slowly dying.
