Empty ( well nearly ) Systems
« on: May 15, 2020, 08:27:02 AM »
Is there a formula which decides whether a System , when first discovered , has Planets/Asteroids/Comets or is empty except for maybe a few comets.

I have discovered 12 systems around Sol and only 5 have Planets etc whilst 7 have the following :-

0    Bodies/Comets         3
0 + 1 Comet                  1
0 + 2 Comets                2
0 + 8 Comets                1

That's a pretty high percentage especially if playing on Real Stars.  Surprisingly enough most of space is just space, the vast minority of systems have less space, but that's still quite a bit of space...

Yeah lot of empty systems. I gave up and save scum when I want nice system, or I add some more bodies via SM :)

The game generates new systems via a random algorithm.
I find that each game varies quite a bit because of this.

In my current game (random stars), I have discovered 18 systems.
Only 1 has no planets.
In fact, all but 3 have at least one planet with col cost < 3.0, and 5 systems have more than one such planet.
This is easily the most near-hab targets I have found this close to home (using default Humans).

It happens sometimes. And I don't really like it when it does. I like my galaxy full, frankly I'd even make it so ANY system has at least something in it...

I only play on real stars cause random is pretty broken but I don't really have this issue. Sure some times I find 3 systems in a row with just asteroids or comets, but I find lots of planets all the time (including habitable ones and ones with minerals).

Now I think The game is taking the p*** , just look at the number of systems devoid of any main features .

Has anyone else had this sort of galaxy creation?

Looks pretty normal, tbh.

Space really is just that empty at times, look at my map, in the last year half of the systems I discovered had nothing in them and only one had a notable amount of orbital bodies.

Well, you have been blessed with High-Quality planets which looks being also empty (lucky you). That beautiful Herculis system looks like the perfect stepping stone for further exploration and development.

froggiest 1982,

Yes - I am currently sending my Whimpey class Stabilisation vessel from Sol to Herculis , stabilising the jump points , so I can begin colonising Herculis A-II (CC 0.33) . Also just found another System and guess what - no Bodies , nothing , ziltch. That makes 9 out of 15 discovered with nothing in them ( except a couple with a comet or two).

Hei Spacemarine, how you create color labels for stellar map?  ???

thanks :)

He did a Galactic Mat tutorial video, show how, step by step along with options not shown in the pic.  Check out The Academy for a direct link.
