In the Stars at War scenario Escape into the Red Sun one of the special rules has a ship with down shields take damage if it was within one interception hex (60 tactical hexes) of the warp point. Said warp point, from the system layout sheet, was one light-minute from the system's primary, a red giant.
This begs the question about how large this zone of damage is for other spectral type. One could imagine the consequences of a warp point just one light minute from a blue giant. If at a certain, albeit close, range a sun could do damage to a shields down unit then what about missile pods, fighters, minefields, buoys and small craft? This would make a vexing terrain feature for both attacker and defender.
