Rebooting this since I'm having both the Atlantic Treaty Organisation brought back together in my current game. I'm setting up some guidelines for myself to try and stick to this time round;

1. Fleet ships (Defined as military vessels not conveyed by a form of mothership and intended to fight in concert with other warships) are to be held to a general velocity of around 3000km/s.
2. Wherever possible, light craft (fighters) are to around 4-5000km/s.
3. Due to a reliance on fleet colliers, maximum size launchers will be used whenever possible. (I'm actually interested in whether a missile launcher can hold/launch multiple missiles of a smaller size at the same time.)

On number three - no, they can't. I tried that in an earlier game, since the idea of a fighter with an ordanance bay that can hold a size 8 missile, or two size 4s, or four size 2s, etc. would have been nice to have. The best you can do is create a two-stage missile that splits apart to the correct size warheads.

Well that's a bummer :P I think I'll consider that for something like emergency counter-missile use in anti-ship missile tubes then.

Yah, on number 3, I thought that was how box launchers worked (like a pod where it shot all of its missiles at once, like if you have a size 10 it will fit 10 size 1s), but I found out the hard way when an enemy took the fight to the Sol system.
Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

The Nimitz would get much better range if it's 36 small engines were replaced with 12 or 6 big ones.

Thanks. I'll admit to some confusion over how to get the best power/fuel use ratio in engines. I'll faff around with the engines and repost it.

I've decided to drop the requirements for fleet ship speed to be up to 2100km/s with the intention of operating at 2000km/s. Trying to get it to a general speed of 3000 km/s was just too difficult for me to balance with hull size and armour.

As ever, the Nimitz is the backbone of the navy. I'll go a few years in the game and then introduce a new version of the F-44 with size 1 box launchers at some point.

EDIT; At this point, I've designed some assault ships. Two of which are designed to be carried aboard the third one as an assault carrier. For some reason though, the larger design isn't available to load as part of the carrier's strikegroup.

The Nimitz  dearly needs additional engineering spaces or maintenance bays. One of the advantages a carrier has is that it can repair ships held within its hanger from its own stockpile of spareparts (something handy if you have a smashed up ship that can't repair itself at all). All of your ships seem to have very short maintenance lives. Not something that's good for prolonged deployments.  Otherwise, they look pretty decent. If I were you I'd strip the missle launchers off of the carrier and replace what space that gives you with more engineering spaces.  Or if you can spring for a scout frigate of sorts or dedicate the sensor space to another hull you could replace the thermal sensor instead.

He might be playing with "no overhauls" as I see he only has 1 engineering space on every ship. Also to Viridia, increase your deployment time slightly as they might need to sit for a month or two over an enemy planet and they can take several months of travel to get from system to system (ones that can reduce moral loss due to deployment).
Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Anything over 500 tons isn't a "fighter".  You should be fine actually landing them on it with task group orders or whatever, but they won't show up in many of the specific management tools.

Cheers for that Powergirl and 83athom, I've reworked these three with more engineering spaces/maintenance storage bays, and taken the CIWS off the Nimitz-class. Even though I've not shown them yet, I do also have a fair few non-military designs ready like colliers and tankers, will post those in the next update.

DIT_grue, thanks for that. I've managed to manually dock the Hakkenberg's aboard the Quebec Plains.

My first attempt dabbling with a supply/munitions carrier. It only carries counter-missiles as an example, since I may double magazine capacity and assign two to every task force carrying all three grades of missile (counter missile, fighter missile, bomber missile) between them.

Both of these are a little slow for their purpose. Try to get the hospital ship to at least 5000km/s and the shuttle to at least 10000km/s.
Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

5k and 10k with Ion tech, I dont think so unless with REALLY horrible fuel consumption ;)

Edit: Played around a bit, and as I thought 10k can not be done at this tonnage, but with 2HS engines (195t total) it would be possible.
