Some Conventional Ships
« on: April 20, 2020, 10:31:07 PM »
Here are some ships I like to use for Conventional Starts. Listed here is a Short Range Colony Ship, an ELINT Scout w/ Passive Sensors, and a small space station for logistics support.
Feel free to use them. Criticism is welcome as always.  ;)

Project Starshot:

Project Summary:
Off-Topic: show

 - The goals of Project Starshot are to create colonies on Mars, Luna, and later on, Venus. The challenges facing this program include colonist morale, colony sustainability under typical extra-planetary environments, the loading/offloading of colony elements, and the range of the colonization craft itself. Project Starshot addresses these challenges in a reasonable 12,000 Ton hull. Luxury accommodations provide the vessel's two-hundred fifty Passengers with something to do on the long journey. A Cargo Hold with an attached Shuttle system provides the means to transport enough Infrastructure to ensure the survival of the two-hundred fifty colonists, even under the harsh conditions of Venus. Alliance Drives has developed the EC12-5 Heavy Lifter by combining elements of Earth's existing rocket designs with advances in nascent Trans-Newtonian technology. Fed by fifteen thousand litres of experimental Sorium-based fuel, this engine can propel the vessel up to two billion kilometers at a rate of fifty two kilometers per second. Four months worth of Life Support in the form of food, water and oxygen recycling give the ship the endurance it needs to carry out it's mission. Notably, the primary bridge is supplemented by a duplicate to ensure command and control even in the event of damage to the ship's control systems.

Project Stargaze:

Project Summary:
Off-Topic: show

 - Project Stargaze was a program that aimed to provide a means of detecting and identifying a potential extra terrestrial incursion within the Solar System. To this end it furnishes state-of-the-art  equipment developed from the latest surveillance technology enhanced with cutting edge advances in Trans-Newtonian physics. Alliance Drives EC17/HO Lifter provides enormous thrust over it's prior design, providing enough power to drive the vessel at a staggering two-hundred eighty three kilometers per second. Thirty one thousand tons of the same Sorium-based fuel used in Project Starshot afford the ship a range of two billion, four-hundred million kilometers, while a life support allocation of three months and nine days can keep the crew provisioned with food, water and air for the entire voyage. An auxiliary bridge enables the crew to retain control of the vessel in the event that the primary bridge should become damaged or disabled.

Code: [Select]
Project Stargaze Class Scout      3,000 tons       69 Crew       249.4 BP       TCS 60    TH 17    EM 0

Does that platform actually enable other vessels to make use of its shuttles to move stuff down to the planet?

No, it doesn't. The main draw of the Industrious Class is that it is cheap and small. That makes building it and transporting it easy to do and let's it be useful later in the game. It doesn't carry much fuel in the grand scheme of things, and requires a planet with a refueling station to refuel itself. The Cargo Shuttles are needed to transfer MSP to other ships, but Maintenance Facilities can transfer MSP to ships without the use of Cargo Shuttles. The shuttles on the Industrious Class are more for when it is positioned away from a place which manufactures MSPs. I do not know if a resupply ship is required to transfer MSP to the Industrious Class, however 500 Tons is rather manageable so it's not a big deal.

Its also capable of doing the earth/mars run, but the moon is priority as its so close you can get a decent colony going despite its terrible capacity.
However, in earlier versions you couldn't load or unload the 0.2 infrastructure this holds, so I couldn't use this the way it was intended.
Also the speed is absolutely excessive for lunar colonization, if you strip out the second engine and add a third luxury passenger accommodation the speed drops to 54 km/s which is fine for the lunar run, but you need to wait 6 weeks for the yards to get big enough for the now 11500 ton design. It will work 50% faster though so might be worth the wait.
Efficiency is a little faster if you make all cargo and all passenger variants too.

". . .  We know nothing about them, their language, their history or what they look like.  But we can assume this.  They stand for everything we don't stand for.  Also they told me you guys look like dorks. "
