I think that some data about the stars in Aurora C# might not be up to date and are based on older observations and so on. I encountered this as well when I was checking on some real stars that Aurora generated in my game. I even got one that should be binary or even trinary and it is single star in Aurora.

If anyone is interested in trying the system out themselves, I attached the zip file with it. WARNING: forum didn't allow me to attach the .pak file, so I had to upload zip. Either unpack it and place its contents in space engine addons folder or change the extension from zip to pak and place the archive directly and you'll be able to explore Qi on your own  ;). Brought to you by Achernar Qi coordinates broadcast. 8)

  • version 0.990 of Space Engine and still no city lights, sadly
  • despite NN 4079 being a real star (Qi is a system from my previous AAR with real stars, after all), Space Engine did not have it, I had to place my own. There was a similar M-class star at exactly same distance from Earth, but it was of a different class (M9V vs NN 4079 being of M3V) and had slightly different parameters. I dunno what's going on.
  • I always imagined Genesis as a rather dark blue planet engulfed in bright yellow atmosphere (think no Man's sky frozen planet with blue ice and yellow/orange sky), but it seems its atmosphere makes the blue ice fields appear as pale green or yellow from space...
  • Yatune in aurora is a tidally locked planet, but in Space Engine I did not recreate this and instead made its rotation and orbital period some random values for the sake of it being an earthlike planet
  • I'm not quite happy with Genesis terrain generation (not really the "Rift Valleys" I hoped for), but Space Engine config options for this are poorly documented and the terrain generation is still of a poor quality I'd say (imagine half the planet being mountains and half being flat, for example, instead of mixed types of terrain like IRL)
  • aurora temperatures didn't match the ones Space Engine generated, so to get them to be equal I had to manually edit greenhouse effects. I guess it has something to do with albedo, which seems to be something totally different in aurora and Space Engine given the temperatures I got for various values of it
  • Vrath, despite being a Venuslike, got much cooler sky IMO when I used "Neptune" atmosphere model and adjusted colors instead of "Venus"

3495 AM hibernation cycle

It was a solar watch like any other when Yatune picked up a mysterious signal originating from deep below the ground. A quick sonar scan revealed a complex cavern system at the source of the emission in a region still unscratched by the mining operations. Sensing a possible leftover from the Humanity, laying dormant for countless hibernation cycles, and deciding to turn itself on at the moment good as any other, Conglomerate approved a special expedition, but as always, what hid in the darkness surpassed the expectations of everyone.

The floor of the caverns was covered in a white goo of organic matter. It could glue itself to whatever else dared to disturb its peace and two explorers had to have emergency methane pack supplied after it chewed a bunch of holes in their space suits before they could free themselves after taking one step too many. It was somewhat similar to the substance discovered at the bottom of the rift on Scar'am, but nothing like other lifeforms ever encountered on Yatune. Strange devices hanging from walls seemed to monitor the parameters of whatever that thing was. Next hypothesis explorers came up with talked about the Substance which had devoured Yagidrerc and was later tamed by Humanity and used to defend against photonic missiles, but a bunch of rudimentary checkouts was enough to displace it due to the radically different composition of the biomass. For the time being, members of the mission restrained themselves from attempting to tinker with the unknown devices and went further through the tunnels, wondering whether they would find something else. And eventually they did, but not something they wanted to find at all.

In one of the underground halls small, slim bipedal figures with two hands. Their skin was blue and they looked at each other in confusion. They walked among the goo, firmly sticked to it. Apart from different skin colour and different facial proportions, they looked almost like tiny humans. Further experiments were required to confirm whether indeed Groaxians had been dealing with genetically modified human beings of some sort. Their heads were much thicker, though, with the skull being surrouned in a half-liquid and half-transparent halo or something. But if they really were representing the Humanity, that might be the historical breakthrough Groaxians had been looking forward to since the surface of Genesis had been bearing the monolith on it. Through the exploration of the caverns many similar halls were discovered, some empty, some with even smaller figures and eventually the mission reached what looked like a vault exit. It was very ductile and resilient, but just like the wall through which Groaxians had made an entrance for themselves, it fell apart under concentrated, plasma-supported laser mining drills. But as soon as the gate stood open, or rather laid destroyed, a significant force of what looked like an adult version of the creatures encountered before appeared on the other side, carrying weird-looking artifacts in their hands, all dressed in black, tight suits.

No questions were asked. A scene of horror and agony unfolded. A horrific, nightmarish sounds echoed across the cave, disrupting everyone. But some looked more affected than others. They screamed in agony as their bodies slowly imploded, still being alive and conscious to some degree as parts of their brains left the skin cut open, tearing apart from each other and falling to the ground. A squad of Dark Forest Shadows and Elite Guardians from Qusmont escorting the expeditions took positions across the rubble from the doors, even they struggled to grasp what was going on. They returned plasma and particle fire in desperate attempt to overcome whatever was attacking them, but more shrieks and mind-tearing noises followed at their directions. But while they were confused, reactive cybersoul combat suits of theirs identified the threat as a sonic weapon fire and autonomously took actions to filter out the harmful sonic waves coming at them. Tempestsaurs leading the Shadows and Guardians assesed the situation only to find the enemies well-covered among rapidly-constructed metallic barricades that for sure did not exist shortly after the doors had been blown out. Plasma heat barely did any damage to it. Particle beams were better suited for the task, but each Guardian had to fire for a good while for their weapons to drill through the alloy.

As the unexpected battle was raging, civilian personnel retreated deeper into the complex, leaving a trail of mashed brains and fractured bodies behind. But the sound triggered something in those brains that were still in one piece. That trail came as a decent help for the fighting soldiers, though. The brains might appear shattered beyond the ability to keep their owners alive, but their rgaments, still pulsating in agony, still showed signs of being able to receive and transmit Transcendent Speech signal. Bound by Dark Forest had used this to their advantage, creating Synergy of the Fallen. With extra brainpower they were able to rapidly shift their attention and their reflexes, already reinforced by cybersoul-based implants, became so sharp surviving scientists and miners weren't fast enough to take notice of everything they'd been doing. This was the reason as to why the flanking team that must had entered the complex through some type of a backdoor was greeted by a hail of plasma and particle fire before they could do as much as level their sonic guns. Light blue substance poured from their shattered bodies, rapidly shifting towards black palette under extreme plasma heat.

Since taking cover didn't provide too much protection against concentrated sound of death as it could do in case of other types of weapons, Shadows and Guardians had little risk in attempting to directly storm the enemy and flush them out of their comfortable spots. With Tempestsaurs preparing everyone to enter Combat Trance, they ran across the corridor, taking more casualties, but not that many as one could expect. Enemy started waivering, eventually breaking down when the civilians, forming Mental Synergy with the encouraged soldiers redirected their mining equipment at them, drilling throught their black suits and blue bodies directly or mining rocks above them, causing cave-ins right on top of them. Morale of every Groaxian increased significantly also because of the symbolic value of using mining equipment in battle, a tradition as old as battles fought in the defense of Yatune. However, no prisoners were taken - last survivors who Groaxians intended to capture fired their weapons at the last moment at each other, annihilating their bodies into blue-white mashup of organic matter.

Entire Yatune was put on high alert, but no further instances of enemy activity had been detected, be it underground, on land, in the seas and rivers or in the skies and even low orbit. But the information that the ones who attacked had nothing to do with Humanity didn't require detailed biological study to confirm. On some of the uniforms of the fallen enemies a symbol of Tempestsaurs of Achernar remained clearly visible. Further xenobiology expertise only confirmed samples of the organic matter recovered from the underground site matched the genetic material recovered from Achernar wrecks in Blutgang and the communication protocols of salvaged devices were very similar to the language of Achernar space broadcasts.

But if Achernar were on Yatune first, why a few of cavern dwellings were all they had managed to build through all these hibernation cycles when Groaxians roamed the planetary surface remained an open question to tackle. Especially that settling this world made little sense for them, unless they did it to watch by then primitive Groaxians to be ready to inform Dark Forest Lords about their presence should the perceived existential threat outweight the  risk of Tizona destruction. Which would be similar to what humans had done, except with a different intent. Even if so, they failed to do what they had planned given the events of Endpoint War. Obviously no Achernar starship had ever landed on Yatune and nobody believed they could land and unload their cargo and citizens without any Groaxian noticing throu hibernation cycles to come. Moreover, there was nobody left for these questions to be asked. The children of Achernar were, well, children and compared to Groaxian spawn lacked the ability to understand much, let alone be of any practical use, being nothing but a resource drain until adulthood. They spawned among discovered infrastructure and had no idea how they appeared on Yatune besides knowledge about Tizona as the star from which their ancestors originated.

Eyes of many Groaxians turned towards the new iteration of Human Space Fleet as something that would need to be put into use much earlier than anyone wanted to shall the Tempestsaurs Of Achernar go on with whatever they were attempting to do that time. Meanwhile scientific community grew more and more confused and divided on the matter of the nature of stuff appearing (or disappearing) out of nowhere. Vrilxel wreck on a desolate moon, missing Umbara outpost on Eckesachs III and no trace left, early Groaxian colony on Joyeuse-B II and Achernar suddenly appearing on Yatune to complete the list for the time being. Aside from making no sense whatsoever, the vision of Achernar suddenly appearing whenever and wherever they pleased in Groaxian territory sounded frightening and undermined any future efforts of fleeing the endangered systems, possibly opening up ways for disrupting Project Ascension as well. Conglomerate immediately issued orders to garrison more soldiers on every colonised planet and tighten space patrols as the new war had begun. Temperature across all Groaxian populations increased as many associated the echoes of a different time discovered in Joyeuse with previous events and feared them being not an alternative history, but a prophecy that was about to be fulfilled.

Japan - The Japanese Empire unveils to the world the first armed spaceship, the Ki-6 (Type 87) Kitsutsuki Fighter.
Other powers know little about the design, besides the fact it is armed with a 100mm Laser cannon. The test flight runs smoothly and no issues are encountered.

May 1927:

USA - After a couple months of shore leave, the Brahe leaves to survey the remaining planets in the solar system.

Japan/Ottomans - Two maintenance facilities are purchased and shipped from Izmir to Sapporo, to support the fledgling space command.
In exchange, industrial machinery makes its way to Istanbul.

July 1927:

Germany - Launch of the RMS Gauss, the German counterpart to the Brahe class. Bigger and with more available range than the american craft, the Raumarine hopes its significantly bigger sensors will allow to catch up with the american effort.

Austria - Plebiscites in the Littoral and Carniola. The voting system is quite complex, with five different districts picking different outcomes. The atmosphere is tense but, with the results in, the exchange of lands occurs relatively smoothly.
Most of the littoral coast opts to join Italy, whereas the interior and carniola are split between Austria and the PRCSB.

November 1927:

Italy - The Aermacchi assembly line for the survey craft Galileo begins production.

January 1928:

UK - British diplomats meet with their counterparts in Lisbon and Atlanta, renewing the existing alliances with Portugal and the CSA.

Germany - Diplomatic efforts focus in expanding the economic agreements with Scandinavia. A new trade deal is signed with Denmark, integrating it further in the German economic sphere.
Moreover, talks begin in Helsinki on a defensive alliance aimed against the USSR.

April 1928:

UK - RSS Intrepid, the first british survey craft, is under construction and scheduled for early 1929.

USSR - Observing the Japanese deployment of attack fighters, the Red Army developed the ZPU-27-1 "Shilka", a mobile AA platform for deployment in various Siberian cities.
The Shilka's cannon is also remarkably powerful against light armored vehicles when equipped with AP rounds, a fact which is not lost on the command.
Furthermore, the Amur line and sections of the western border are fortified and equipped with 135mm Rail Cannon emplacements.

Latin America - A Nationalist coup in Nicaragua succeeds, backed by Confederate agents. The Junta espouses an ultranationalist ideology, openly calling for military aggression towards its neighbors. In response, the USA strongly condemn the new government and rekindle the alliance with Costa Rica and Panama.

June 1928:

USSR - Dagestan is conquered by the advancing Red Army, which manages to reach the border with Azerbaijan. After years of devastation, the region is sparsely populated and home to very few industrial facilities.

Germany - The RMS Leibniz, sister ship to the RMS Gauss, is launched from the Imperial shipyard.

Japan - As the number of japanese fighters rapidly grows, plans are drafted for an invasion of Hainan under the pretext of support for the Viet Minh by the local warlord.

September 1928:

CoF - Senegal is largely brought under control by the Légion Internationelle. Order is restored for the population, along with some machinery used by the warlords to produce weaponry.

December 1928:

Japan - Hainan is invaded in the first combined operation from land, sea, air and space. The Space Command operated largely in a support role to test its capabilities. Regardless, the effect on troop morale was significant on both sides.
Haikou and Sanya, the two major ports on the island, are captured without great resistance. Engineers begin constructing infrastructure to support the airforce and space command, preparing for the next operation.

January 1929:

USSR - The Red Army command is shocked by the Japanese deployment of its fighter squadrons, using them at altitudes way beyond the protective capabilities of the Shilka battery.
Research is redirected from improvements in the Railgun cannons to prototyping a small, portable orbital battery capable of shooting beyond the atmosphere.
Fortunately, the current moves from the empire point towards focus on its Sanshin-Ron doctrine of expansion in South-East Asia, instead of the Nanshin-Ron doctrine that would put the Soviets in the line of fire, giving the USSR some time to prepare for an eventual attack.
However, these considerations might not mean much if the attack is directed towards a fellow communist country or group.

Italy - Receiving reports that the Ottoman Empire has begun modernizing its troops, the army requests permission to deploy two new infantry divisions, the 40th Infantry "Cacciatori d'Africa" and the 65th Infantry "Granatieri di Savoia" to Egypt
The divisions, not yet at full strength, consist of 3 infantry brigades, a tank brigade, support artillery and reconnaissance vehicles, all equipped with state of the art weaponry, and are ordered to garrison the Nile river delta. This brings Italy to the maximum amount of troops deployable in Egypt by the codominium protocols with the Ottomans. Any further deployment would breach the treaty, but politicians in Ankara fear an imminent attack regardless.
Back in Rome, the generals argue for a strike as soon as possible, given the current state of the two powers' armies. With tensions as high as they are at the moment, a spark could set the region ablaze.

USA - Production of the 4th Brahe-Class Geosurvey Craft begins in Seattle. Given the state of its reconstruction effort, Austria decided to purchase a dedicated craft rather than wait for its industry to be able to produce it. Deeming the current generation of ships to have exhausted its potential, the USA government authorized the production of vessels for commercial purposes.

April 1929:

USA/Germany - In reaction to the rapid buildup by Japan, the two foremost powers plan designs for a FAC and Frigate respectively, in order to outgun the Japanese.
Most powers begin planning for STO emplacements to defend their territory.

Japan - The situation in Viet Nam has been stationary for a long time, with both sides of the civil war receiving a steady flow of supplies.
However, the imperial high command plans to change the situation, targeting the main hub for the viet cong smuggling operations, the French-controlled port of Kwangchou.
Knowing this would be considered a direct act of war by the Internationale, the Empire plans to leverage its orbital support fighters, as they stand unchallenged for now. International reactions are expected to be relatively mild, considering the threat the fighters pose to other countries' survey ships and to the German shipyard.
Preparations are made on the newly conquered island of Hainan, with the first fighter squadron growing in size by the day.

UK - Launch of the Intrepid, the british geosurvey craft.

May 1929:

Ottoman Empire - In order to fight the italian tanks, the turkish army trains regiments of infantry equipped with Anti-Vehicle Gauss rifles, as a stopgap measure. A new vehicle is planned to enter development in the year.

German Empire - The Steinbach shipyard undergoes retooling for the new Blucher Destroyers. The Blucher represents the german response to the nimble Kitsutsune fighters, and outclasses them in every way. Its fire controls and speed are based on the observed maximum speed of the Japanese craft.
Redundancy is clearly visible in the design, with multiple fire controls in order to keep the ship operative even if one of them were to be knocked out.

June 1929:

Japan - Preparations for operation Shogun are set. Within the week, diplomats from Japan request access to Kwangchou from the Commune in order to stop the smuggling directed towards Hanoi.
Upon the initial French refusal, the Empire presents an ultimatum: abandon the port or face the might of the rising sun. Internationale forces mobilize in the USSR, where the Amur line receives a constant stream of supplies and reinforcements.

Italy - As the high command grows impatient, the Kwangchou crisis' flare up provides a perfect opportunity to strike. With the world's eyes on China, the Italian force in Egypt prepares to strike.

The Second Italo-Turkish War

On June 5th, 1929 the italian 65th infantry division leaves its post in Alexandria, speeding in the night towards the bridges over the Nile delta. At 2:00am local time, radio signals spike throughout Egypt. The jig is up, and soon enough, shells from the artillery brigade assigned to the turkish 16th infantry division hit Kafr-el Mansouk after spotting an EM signature. Italian and Turkish forces in Cairo receive orders to hold station and try to provoke the other to fire first, but to no avail.
Egyptian militias offer little in terms of military support, but the war would be for naught if the city were to be destroyed. Turkish sappers carry out multiple night operation and blow up the city's bridges. Both powers pin the blame on the opponent, but by now diplomacy was on the backseat.
Fighting erupted in the morning, with rear guard actions by the turkish skirmishers slowing down the italians in their approach to Mansura. Both the 16th and 19th Division managed to entrench defendable positions on the Nile and in Cairo respectively, blunting the surprise attack.
With prebuilt emplacements and natural barriers, the war quickly devolved into trench warfare, casualty rates being absolutely horrific in the first day, bringing back unpleasant memories of the Great War.
Both sides order the deployment of additional forces, with two extra divisions on the way for Italy and one for the Ottomans. Further deployment would stretch the armies beyond what would be considered safe on other borders.

As the hours turned into days, it became apparent this would not be a quick operation. Losses rapidly mounted on both sides, albeit more on the turkish side. Italian tanks and firepower began to take their toll, especially among the turkish auxiliaries.
However similar the war appeared to the Great War from the outside, the difference was clear on the front. Lessons had been learned and tactics adapted by both sides, with the reinforced defensive emplacements deployed by the turkish army in particular being extremely effective at giving their non mechanized troops a chance.
Italian generals employed a strategic plan dubbed "Forze di marea" (Italian for tide forces). This plan consisted in surgical bombardments by railcannons and mortars, made all the more effective by the enhanced precision enabled by TN technology, followed by heavy tanks.
Rather than exploiting a breakthrough, the aim of the initial attack was to hold a bridgehead over the enemy defensive works, to be occupied by the italian infantry and held with fire support. As the enemy tried to counterattack, a similar attack would occur somewhere else on the front, resulting in a constant erosion of the enemy position, much like the endless battering of waves on a cliff.
Given the lack of any weaponry able to penetrate the heavy tanks' armor, holding the line was nigh on impossible for the turkish army, as they began to lose various bridgeheads over the Nile.

The arrival of support divisions further tilted the balance of power in favor of Italy. The 8th colonial infantry division, only partially armed with TN weaponry, entered Sudan from Eritrea but encountered little resistance in the march to Khartoum.
Conversely, the 27th infantry division "Otranto" attempted a landing in port Said, but was halted in its advance by the 6th expeditionary force reserve as soon as it tried to advance along the canal. The maneuver threatened the envelopment of turkish forces along the Nile, therefore the only remaining option for the turks was to retreat behind the canal.

At dawn of the 8th day of battle, with the Kwangchou incident at its end, both powers sit at the negotiation table. Fears of an intervention by Britain or Austria were real for Italy, as the fall of the Ottomans would undoubtedly upset the balance of power.
Alternatively, were the other powers to stand by and watch, the result would be clear. In eight days, Italy dislodged all turkish resistance from Egypt, which did not bode well for the safety of Jerusalem, Damascus and beyond. Losing Egypt would be a blow to the prestige of the empire, but its sovereign territory would remain intact.
Despite most of the italian demands being accepted, the Sinai peninsula remained a contentious point. American mediation allowed to reach an agreement to satisfy the demands of both powers for the security of Palestine and the Suez canal respectively.

Thus was finalized the treaty of Thessaloniki:

End of the Egyptian codominium
Assertion of Italian control over the Kingdom of Egypt
Estabilishment of the Sinai peninsula as a demilitarized zone between the two powers
Resolution of various minor border disputes in the Aegean between Bulgaria, Greece and the Ottomans

The treaty granted full access to the Egyptian population and resources for Italy, including the british-founded Egyptian University (+9 CI, +13m pop, +1 Lab).

The Zhanjian Incident

In Tokyo, the imperial high command received news of the outbreak of hostilities in Egypt around noon. Despite the lack of intended coordination between the powers, this unexpected development was great news for the Empire.
Earlier that day, the ultimatum imposed on the Internationale went unanswered, as the clock ticked to midnight in Paris. Therefore, operation Shogun was given the go-ahead for the evening.

A barrage from land, sea and air descended on Zhanjian, the french port obtained during the second opium war. The tiny garrison in the city could do little against the onslaught, with many fleeing inland and hoping to make the long trek to Hanoi.
Guns over the Amur river began roaring, in a preemptive bombardment aimed at throwing the soviet forces in disarray. From space, the first fighter squadron watched on, buzzing around the planet and taking on recon duties with their sensors.

Within a few hours, the town was completely in ruins. Japanese infantry walked on a cratered and barren soil, among many dead civilians. The port, object and cause of the war, was nowhere to be seen, its charred remains left swallowed by the sea and submerged.
The international reaction to two acts of war in two successive days was shock and awe at the power of modern armies, as well as great disarray among diplomatic offices. Two crises flaring up at the same time rendered coordinated action complex, but highlighted the inadequacy of old diplomatic methods.
Citizens across Europe woke up to news from China of the effective leveling of an entire city by Japan in one night, utterly shocked by the show of power. The war in Egypt was deadly, but at least both contestants wanted to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.

The next day, soviet forces regrouped on the Amur, using their superior artillery to force japanese soldiers out of the defensive fortifications, but before further escalation had the chance to occur, surprisingly the empire calls for peace. Not a surrender, but the immediate termination of hostilities under the ultimatum conditions.
Forcing the issue, the fighter squadron firef various warning shots at the french orbital shipyard still under construction. With its assets threatened and no way to fight back, the internationale accepted the conditions and began withdrawing from Vietnam.

In little over two days, the Empire imposed its will with force and decision, highlighting the importance of armed vessels in space and defensive batteries on the ground.
The Zhanjian incident would go down in history as the spiritual successor of the battle of Tsushima: another demonstration by Japan to the west that its might is not to be trifled with.
Unfortunately for the Commune, being on the receiving end of such an humiliation caused a great amount of distress. It is clear that the delay in adopting new technologies and now this show of complete weakness cast more than a few doubts on the communist party's leadership.

For the second time in 15 years, illusions of peace were shattered by a brutal landscape of war, a war faster and more deadly than ever. Despite the success of the egyptian campaign, the casualty rates for Italy were staggering compared to initial predictions.
About 20% of the italian soldiers deployed to Egypt are either dead or MIA, despite the duranium body armor and IFVs employed in the operation. A "walk in the park", as the operation was sold to the people, became a relentless bloodbath.
The turkish army did not fare better, with many soldiers still armed with modified Lee rifles. Despite heroic resistance, over 40% of the infantrymen lie dead on the banks of the Nile. A complete disaster for the empire, which lost a significant part of its modern forces.

With only around 100.000 soldiers engaged, over 30 thousand lost their lives in a little over a week. War was expected to be costly, but this rate was absolutely unheard of.
Comparisons with the relative ease with which Japan imposed its will made one thing clear. Earth's orbit was now the most prized real estate to be claimed, with ground support troops providing the means to sweep the enemy, but not before the battle in space has been won.

The rest of 1929 unfolded as the ripple effects of the "twin wars" echoed through the planet. Most powers estabilished an STO arms program, aimed at protecting their orbital assets and troops.
More and more of the nations' budget was channeled in warships and military technology, with isolationist countries like the USA forced onto the global stage.
Finally, by the end of the year, Germany announced its intent to land colonists on the Moon as soon as 1932. The race for the solar system had begun.

A new era of colonization beckons, one which will require careful treading by all actors involved. With weapons ever more destructive and the decisive advantage of a first strike, operating without a framework could be deadly and unimaginably costly.
We'll see in the next chapter how the great powers navigated these dangerous currents, and if all of them got their (literal) place in the sun.

As if Blutgang hadn't been a bustling hub of automated industry and testing system for many latest technologies already, for example antigravity propulsion system for ground vehicles or Mental Synergy Collider, the latter being an elaborate technique developed by a group of Tempestsaurs to scale their capabilities up by nullifying negative mental effects by mixing a group who created a negative synergy with a group creating positive synergy and having the two ideas collide to wear both of them out and thus achieve the goal of dealing with the former, Conglomerate just kept pumping more resources into the system. After countless battles, several rings of wrecks orbiting stars in Blutgang alone were estimated to last the industry of both Scar'am and Scrar'ix for several hibernation cycles. But more importantly, salvaging missions opened an opportunity to study those of the wrecks which remained a mystery. Besides a fleet of Vrilxels who had once met its end during first arrival in Blutgang and well-classified Umbara ships, wrecks of Achernar and Precursor vessels also drifted across the void. The latter didn't differ much from what had already been known thanks to the monolith and weren't very useful anymore because of all the knowledge there was to be learn already learned, but the remaining pieces from Achernar fleet with which Umbaras had fought in Blutgang quickly picked interest.

An interesting symbol appeared in many parts of intact hull structures, oddly fitting with the philosophy of Achernar. It was cyclical, just like the universe and all history was, according to them at least, but there was more beyond this simple observation. The center of the picture looked like a symbol of a star, but the lines expanding outwards carried had creepy vibes attached to them. They could represent the shock wave after the star had been struck by a photonic missile or the extreme gravity warping space around as the star is in the process of collapsing into a black hole. Some soulseekers also came up with a third interpretation: the outward lines were the gravitational waves carrying the stellar coordinates of the doomed system to be heard by those who hear and those who hesitate not.

This seemingly simple picture carried a compact, but deep presentation of the fundamental Achernar philosophy. But just as it was a symbol of the path to follow according to the Achernar, it became another symbol for soulseekers who noted how quickly Groaxians grasped the multi-layered meaning behind it. Identity of Umbara Commune took a good chunk of research to figure out, similarily to Humanity even though the latter contained it all in a monolith, but with Achernar it was quick and smooth. The easiness at which Groaxians could read Achernar philosophy was simply disturbing.

Time and combat destruction were ruthless for the wrecks. By the time Groaxians arrived, there wasn't much left to be examined. Out of notable findings the one that stood out was the gravitational broadcast array with which every single Achernar starship came outfitted with, or at least every single of the ones that had been blown out in Blutgang. It had a simple consequence of every starship of theirs being a doomsday device ready to be used and execute countless worlds it came across. Another unique find was some sort of mist, space dust, a kind of fog surrounding every wreck, mostly consisting of silicon, but there was a handful of coal, iron and traces of oxygen and chlorine to be found in this mixture as well. The properties and applications of whatever this thing was before being reduced into ashes remained unknown.

At last, the command of space forces announced a huge success in prototyping a new generation of military starships. The most straightforward design out of the ones proposed was a kinetic striker which was a spiritual successor of Syzygy, except everything about it was "bigger and better":

Blades originally produced by humans used a sophisticated particle launchers firing particles capable of, at least in theory, phase through ship's armor mostly unaffected, but "mostly" was the keyword, because many of those particles were ineffective and preemptively stopped, so Groaxians simply went with trusty kinetic weapons punching holes and crushing the target under enormous kinetic energy until there was no armor, no hull and nothing at all left to destroy. But while this was hardly a revolutionary design, when the next two were presented, it was obvious where most of the development time had been sunk.

Antimatter experiments picked up pace and Dragonbreath was the first applied result of theirs. While antimatter production was still too low to construct reactors based on it, Blutgang reactor, together with similar ones built around Qi and Mimung, was able to produce enough antiparticles to fuel next-gen starship weapons. Antiparticle beam might have been "fully antiparticle" only in theory, with only one out of thousands fired particles being a representative of antimatter, but even then it was more than enough to meet military needs - with millions of particles leaving the barrel of the weaponized accelerator each shot, thousands of antiprotons were more than enough to release a massive energy upon contact with the matter of enemy ship, and the "conventional particles" still remained a respectable tool of destruction on their own.

But even a full antiparticle beam meant nothing compared to the armanent of the starships meant to be used as fleet command centers despite theoretically not being designed with that purpose in mind. Having worked out or around every single issue of weaponizing the fruits of theory of soulgrain gravity, physicists helped deliver a weapon platform like never before. At first sight it was again a particle accelerator, but that impression couldn't land further from the truth as particle accelerator was just one component of the platform. It was used for creating microscopic, unstable black holes that were to be launched at the enemy. Through their short lifespan they caused local space fluctuations on a micro scale which were later targeted by the main payload of the weapon, concentrating high-powered gravitational outbursts capable, depending on the chosen setting, of either rapidly pulling objects closer to it and destroying them, or sending them away, rapidly increasing the distance from the enemy and also damaging it in the process. Because of the way it was supposed to work, the weapon was often casually referenced as "gravity guided missile" because of its unique targeting system that could be metaphorically described as laser guiding system of a conventional fusion missile. Soulgrain Singularity Curvature Fluctuators were expected to essentially let Groaxians, if not outright destroy, then take control of any enemy fleet by heavily influencing the direction it could or could not go. Just like original Vaccines were developed to nullify the threat of Invaders, at least temporarily, Groaxian version was supposed to quickly eradicate any oppositon that might be faced. In addition, gravity-based jamming devices disrupting enemy targeting attempts were mounted on all warships just like it had been planned.

Squadrons of Vaccines and Dragonbreaths were to form a next-gen Human Space Fleet, meanwhile out of Blades Conglomerate expected to be organised into a defensive grid around the three systems inhabited by Groaxians in case Human Space Fleet was to operate beyond Groaxian space for whatever reason. A specialised freighters were supposed to assist Blades and quickly deliver spare parts or kinetic slugs in between the defended systems:

Umbara Commune was no longer a threat and Tempestsaurs Of Achernar had not attacked after their broadcast, firmly standing to their philosophy, meanwhile Groaxians remained defenseless against any Dark Forest Strike that was to come. But the exponentially rising fear of the weapons new starships were equipped with each military breakthrough left an impression among many that Groaxians were well on their way to reach the level of Dark Forest Lords, given the eaziness at which physicists were capable fo manipulating space around them in a way that was deadly for whatever predator and prey in one might find and attack Groaxians next. The simplest conclusion was to find comfort in the advancements of science and hope the level required for repelling Dark Forest Strikes would be reached soon enough as a backup for if the Project Ascension was to take too long to get completed in time, but there were certainly many who did not look optimistically into the consequences of Groaxians being capable of causing destruction on such a scale.

It seems that Raiders, while dangerous, are pretty reliant on their tech edge. They certainly aren't unbeatable, and killing/capturing their ships should lead to a pretty rapid evening up of tech levels if you can salvage the wrecks, or choose to disassemble prizes. Of course, it being so early in the campaign, the Imperium is having trouble using the improved tech, because Gallicite shortage is a thing, as ever (and we haven't even GOT to the Corundinium Crunch yet), but if they can fend off this early pressure, it should mean a much stronger Imperium in the medium term, with access to much better engines, sensors and ELINT gear than you'd normally expect.

In mid 2027, the 1st Lunar Garrison has completed their training and is deployed to Luna. The 2nd "Luna" Corps returns to Earth from their Lunar deployment, having little to no combat encounters during their deployment on Luna. At a Conclave Army press conference, Knight Grand Commander Jake Manning states: "We seek only to secure peace to our worlds. We are not warmongers." The Quadrant was constructed and set to explore the Lambda Reticuli system. The expedition into Lambda Reticuli is to be protected by Battle Group Jewel. The Civil Administration approves the colonization of the planet marked as Julius, which is a moon of the 2nd gas giant in the Lambda Reticuli system. The moon has minimal deposits of Trans-Newtonian elements. The Voyager terraforming tech might be able to terraform this moon into a more hospitable place.

The Quadrant completes the survey of the Lambda Reticuli system in November of 2027. Quadrant's commanding officer (Sir Adam Morris) is rewarded a medal for his service, as well as the science officer (Squire Joshua Patterson) aboard. The colonial department remarks that the Lambda system is unremarkable. Robert Odonnell, cousin of Kai Odonnell, is assigned as Governor of Julius.

The Conclave Council declares a state of emergency on fuel reserves. Two Theta class Tankers are constructed but are empty on fuel. In addition, there is a massive worker shortage across the Conclave. This shortage has lead to many economic shortcomings. Mines are moved from Callisto to Earth to accommodate the shortfalls in workers. Geological Survey Team codenamed "Discovery" is being trained on Earth. Mars has a large mineral potential beneath the soil. The Conclave Council begins committing resources and vessels to exploring the westward arm of known space. As a response, the Civil Administration prioritizes the construction of a Curator class Fuel Harvesting Station. The fuel crisis is leading to the price of sorium to rise. Meanwhile, the Survey Naval Command begins to send more expeditions into the westward arm of the galaxy. Sol has two jump points: Proxima Centauri and Lambda Reticuli. The Survey Command reports that interstellar findings have been meandering at best with only a few decent Trans-Newtonian mineral reserves in known space. In 2030, two Deep Space Tracking Stations are transported to the Julius colony.

The CSV Conclave enters into the Proxima Centauri system, alongside an Iota class Jump Tender, her mission is to continue surveying deep space. Her first destination is Groombridge 34, which is a binary star system. Groombridge's second star has 4 planets orbiting it with two of those being low cost habitability. The CSV Beta discovers the 61 Hydrae system. Another unremarkable system. The first Curator class is created and gets tugged to Jupiter. A World class Terraforming Station is set to be built for terraforming Mars once more. In 2031, strange Warhive scripts and ruins were found amongst the Titan ruins. They were known as the Susquehanna. The Warhive left behind 160 installations. The 1st Construction Team is sent to Titan to uncover the installations. The 1st Geological Survey Team "Discovery" is sent to Mars to survey beneath the surface.

Titan's ruins begin to be rebuilt by the 1st Construction Team "Bumblebee." They were able to find a pre-Shroud War Military AI which has been reactivated and is being transported back to Earth. A secret combat formation of Guardians are deployed to Titan to remove the remnant Warhive forces. The Warhive was hidden deep beneath the cities catacombs and sewers, but the Guardian Fireteam was able to dispatch of their foes quickly. Colonists are cleared for landing.

Hello everyone, the series is back. I hope to be able to continue for a while this time, i could not go on for the longest time due to personal stuff but we're back.

Unfortunately, the only map i have now is for 1928, so you'll have to wait for the next update, which should come soon enough.

Finally, regarding military stuff: if (more like when) a war between two great powers happens, i will post the orders of battle and army composition. Until then, most of the fighting is between conventional forces mainly, so i felt like posting OOBs was kinda pointless.

Austro-Hungarian Civil War

The year opened with apprehension in many of the european cities, as the diplomatic crisis on the Danube unfolded. After only seven years, war ravages central europe once again, a war threatening to be more deadly and devastating than even the Great War.
Nevertheless, diplomatic interests collided over the outcome of the war, with different powers supporting the three main factions in the conflict.

The loyalists, mostly located in Austria, Bohemia, Moravia and Galicia had the support of the United Kingdom and the Ottoman Empire, both trying to maintain a counterweight to the growing Italian influence in the mediterranean; the turks, given the current state of the Empire, could only spare equipment and humanitarian aid. Most of the foreign brigades fighting on the Austrian side were british or german volunteers, the latter without official support from the government.

Meanwhile, the hungarians were supported by various minor powers in the german alliance, chiefly Poland. Some polish and ukrainian freedom fighters led the resistance against Austria in Galicia-Lodomeria and received support by their respective home countries.

Finally, the Illyrian rebels unified under a broad coalition led by the Socialist Party of Croatia, receiving significant funding and great quantities of weapons, delivered via smuggling operations through Bulgaria by the French and Soviet governments.

In the first phases of the war, the decisiveness of Hungarian generals meant that their forces reached the outskirts of Vienna, and were able to shell the city with Railgun artillery. The loyalists in Galicia were sieged in Lwow, as Krakow raised the Polish banner after insurgents assaulted the garrison.
Kaiser Karl, despite the danger, opted to stay in the city and rally the population. Allegedly, at the pressing request by the parliament for an evacuation, he replied: "If i have, God have mercy, to be the last emperor of Austria, let it be known that i died defending the same city that was considered lost in 1683, and yet still stands."
Zagreb rapidly became a smoldering ruin, with shelling from Austrian and Hungarian regiments pounding the city day in and day out. However, the resistance adopted guerrilla tactics, using the sewers and the basements to set ambushes, fighting for every building shell still standing.

With most of the Austrian army concentrated in the defense of Vienna, an enveloping maneuver was attempted by the Hungarian army, reaching for Brno in order to attack vienna from the north. A timely counterattack by the loyalists was able to break the salient and force a retreat, with the austrians capturing Bratislava exploiting the breakthrough.
As the two halves of the former empire focused on each other, the town of Dubrovnik was secured by the Illyrian rebels. Reacting to the potentially hostile presence, the italian fleet blockaded the straits of Otranto and moved the 2nd Army on the Austrian border. The move caused tensions to flare up, as the british foreign ministry warned that any armed intervention will spark another Great War. The two powers held talks in Ajaccio to reduce tensions on May 1926. The talks led to an informal agreement, later accepted by Austria, on a plebiscite in the lands of the Littoral and Dalmatia after the war's end. Any sort of intervention was ruled out by the italians for fear of a british or french intervention, depending on the target.

In June, a second offer from Bucharest arrived through the embassy in Vienna. The first, sent in February, was immediately refused. To compromise on imperial land was unthinkable, but so was the damage inflicted by modern war on the nation. With the war dragging on and at a standstill, the Kaiser was forced to compromise with the Romanians in order to end the bloodshed as soon as possible. An alliance with Romania was signed, as well as a guarantee for its national claims in the Carpathians in exchange for their intervention in the war.
The planned Austrian offensive started as soon as the Romanian army crossed the mountain passes in the Carpathians. It soon bogged down, most of the attack's momentum funneled successfully in the killzones prepared by the hungarian army. With both sides lacking armored support, the frontlines remained largely stagnant.
Unfortunately for the magyars, the token defenses in the Carpathians were overran by a much stronger than expected push.

Following this setback, the Hungarian cause suffered greatly from a numerical disadvantage. Shrewd and sound strategy by the Austrian high command led to increasing focus on the Hungarian front, somewhat giving up on recapturing Croatia after witnessing firsthand the difficulties in controlling the rebellious and increasingly spirited population. As the outcome became increasingly clear, the willingness of the Kaiser to compromise made him an extremely popular figure among most minorities, forcing the issue on future reforms to create "a federation of equals".
Illyrian rebels reached and captured Lubljana in October, after Zadar suffered a similar fate the month before. With the austrian army approaching the outskirts of Budapest, Hungarian forces capitulated to the hammer-and-anvil maneuver, caught between the loyalists and romanians.
With the country in ruins and the fighting spirit of the Illyrians on full display, both sides decided to negotiate terms. Peace talks between representatives of Hungary, Austria and the newly christened People's Republic of Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia started in November, with representatives from all the European great powers in attendance. The resulting Treaty of Zurich redefined the borders in the Balkans for years to come.

Treaty of Zurich:

The People's Republic of Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia is formally recognized as the sole legitimate government of the Illyrian region by all the powers in attendance, holding on all lands controlled by its forces at the time of the ceasefire
Romania is awarded the entirety of its claims in the formerly Hungarian region of Transylvania
Northern Slovenia/Krain will hold a plebiscite on whether to be part of the PRCSB or Austria
The Austrian Littoral will hold a plebiscite on whether to be part of Italy or Austria
Serbia will receive a border region part of Vojvodina

Innsbruck Protocols and related treaties:

Alliance agreements are signed by Romania and Serbia with Austria, defensive in nature towards Austria and its allies
Montenegro and Italy sign a defensive alliance
The PRCSB joins the Internationale, becoming its third active and fully recognized government

End of the Austro-Hungarian Civil War

Other developments:

Over 1926, the Brahe surveys Jupiter and its system of moons, discovering large deposits of minerals on Io and sorium in the lower layers of the gas giant's atmosphere.
Additionally, Adrastea (a small asteroid moon) and Callisto harbor some minor deposits. The system as a whole could become strategically important in the upcoming decades, with the US having the distinct advantage of first discovery.

Its sister ship, Copernicus, is launched in may and is dispatched to survey the asteroid belt and the various comets orbiting the Sun.

As the US continue the exploration of the stars alone, the European powers move on with the arduous effort of reclaiming the dark continent.
The British Army is able to regain full control of the southern part of Nigeria and Ghana, two of the most populated and wealthy areas that were overran in the post-Great War collapse.

After reclaiming Algeria, the Légion Internationelle (heir to the Légion Étrangére of old) was dispatched to Senegal, where Dakar held throughout the collapse as one of the few cities still in european hands. The surrounding regions become a warzone as the returning french face various groups in their struggle for control.
An Italian expedition lands in Madagascar, with the intent of claiming the island for the house of Savoy, wrestling the control of its jungles from the numerous militias and native tribes.
Finally, the first German expedition is escorted by the first cruiser squadron of the rebuilt Kriegsmarine and lands on the coast of Kameroon and the outpost in Equatorial Guinea. Late to the scramble, not unlike the first time, the Army is ordered to advance and secure the old colony of Kameroon and pacify Gabon before the french have a chance to regain a foothold in the region.

There remains but one achievement of note to be reported, during these troubled times. Perhaps, the darkest of them all.
On March 6th, 1927, in a facility near Sapporo, two hangar doors opened. The sun cast its feeble rays upon a machine built not for exploration, but for destruction. The first, and certainly not last of its kind: an armed spacefaring vessel. War had reached the stars.

As Austria rebuilds, Japan gears for destruction. The importance of a first strike is often decisive, and the Empire is well aware. Most certainly, war will return soon, but in the meantime peace is back to the developed world.
