The Academy / Fleet Shields Button not working in 2.1.1 (Lower shields)
« Last post by Rook on September 28, 2022, 06:07:22 PM »
Hey yall,

After doing some digging on the forums, I noticed some bug fixes for this, so I didn't want to post this in bug reports in case I was mistaken or goofed somehow.

The issue:
When selecting a fleet in NAVAL Organization, the Raise/Lower shield button only works for raising shields. Individual ships must be selected when lowering shields.

Not sure if this is by design, a bug in the game, or just a bug in my installation. Anyone else experiencing this? Does it need to be posted in the official bug reports thread?

Cheers,
Rook

Getting a monitor that can do 1280x1024 or 1440x900 is your best bet. Infinite Screen and other similar hacks to make things work are always super-duper annoying and cumbersome to use. The resolutions that Aurora requires at minimum are so old that you can get super cheap second-hand monitors.

Somewhere in the depths of the forum is a link, but I use Infinite Screen v1.72. It is a pain in the butt, but it does work.

FAQ / Trying to play on a 1366x768 monitor!

I've read the topic of screen resolution posted by @linkage and the FAQ resolution fixes, by now, I've scoured the internet for how to make it work on my computer, but nothing comes up, I've been trying to make it work for the last 5 days ha-ha.

Anyway, any fixes for the C# version? I've tried hacking the window with a window proportion changer, but it still crops out some of the info, and the icons end up squashed and sometimes unrecognizable.

I've tried upscalling my native resolution with the res fixes topic, but it doesn't work
I've tried making a custom res on my Intel integrated card, but my monitor gives a "Resolution not supported" message, that makes it quite a hassle to use the monitor
I've already tried a VM, I've tried VMware (which, for some ungodly reason does not wish to finish the download on my PC) and VMbox, which I'm too much of a brainlet to understand how to use.

Please, can anyone help a guy out? ;D

For playing a reduced research game, I would note that as a very rough guideline, the new spoilers as with most spoiler races can be dealt with reasonably well once your race(s) reaches Ion Drive tech level - so this can be one way to balance things, just turn them on once you reach that level. If you plan to stay at NPE tech all game, spoiler races are probably not for you anyways.

As a tangent, I think that a fun concept might be a game where one's technology is intentionally imbalanced between fields.

For example, a player race that has MaxTech in one field but a 1% racial research rate for everything else. Perhaps you're a caveman tribe that stumbled upon an abandoned Precursor automated factory.

In my current campaign I have five Earth factions at 25% research speed... I just decided to increase the required number of systems before they appear... I think I basically doubled it.

If you're playing on the very latest 2.1.1, then it might be fine, since the raiders will only start generating ships once you've discovered enough systems to trigger them. Meaning they generally won't have as many ships as they used to have in the previous versions. Who knows what it will look like much later in the game though.
