SS-1/A-class Survey Shuttle | |
Description In the early years of the Terran Republic’s Trans-Newtonian revolution, scientific knowledge was leaping far ahead of implementing that knowledge in practical solutions. With projections expecting that converting existing industry to TN standards would take 20 or more years, it was decided that it was imperative to begin exploring the Sol system for more TN minerals before orbital shipbuilding infrastructure could be established. With all the necessary Trans-Newtonian technologies already researched, they required a practical test to put theory into reality. Weapons and Equipment The SS-1/A is designed around the simple premise of putting the Han-Wei built Geological survey sensor capable of detecting deposits of Trans-Newtonian minerals from orbit into use exploring the solar system. The HW/MOA-1 requires a dedicated crew of ten to keep it operating, with the other three crew members onboard responsible for the rest of the equipment onboard. The survey sensor also takes half of the shuttle’s mass, with much of the remaining mass going to the Valgus Drive Systems engine that powers the shuttle to a maximum speed of 751 m/s and its fuel tanks. While considered underpowered compared to other models produced for other small craft designs, the efficient drive consumes half the fuel of a baseline engine. This allows the shuttle to travel for four and a half months under full power, while the spartan life support systems are rated for a full year of (somewhat cramped and uncomfortable) service before requiring resupply. | Production Information Manufacturer: Valgus Drive Systems Production Year: NRE 9 Model: SS-1/A Class: Survey Shuttle Technical Specifications: Mass: 500t Engine: Valgus Drive Systems NRE(E)-7.5/100 Thrust: 751 km/s Power Plant: N/A Armor: Duranium (single layer) Crew: 13 (12 enlisted; 1 officer) Fuel: 29,000 liters (9.6bkm / 147 days) Endurance: 115 MSP (Max Repair: 100 MSP; 5.29y) Armament: None Target and Tracking System: Han-Wei HW/FGA-2 Gravitational Sensor |
