To make coming up with modern day scenarios a little easier I have created a spreadsheet that lists the top 100 or so countries with pop and GNP listed. The spreadsheet has columns for eight allliances next to the country lists. Enter a 1 in the appropriate column for any country you want to include and the spreadsheet calculates the population and GNP in billions of dollars for each alliance. I have setup a possible scenario as an example but you can change the alliance names as required. You can also change the population and GNP figures if you want to give countries different values.

How interesting. I actually did exactly the same thing with that data, except I loaded in all of the countries. On the data form you just change the code for the alliance (in the spreadsheet). I had 9. Which was crazy to run.
The totals worksheet adds things up for the alliances, but most of that page is actually manual. I had calculated a starting point and then edited the numbers (writing over the formulas) and used it to edit the starting setups.
The bulk of the data may be useful if people are interested, so I've attempted to attach it below.
