Suggestions for Aurora Scenarios
« on: February 25, 2008, 06:05:08 AM »
I am considering various options for a new campaign but I am having trouble deciding which way to go. Since the new automatic tactical intelligence and tech scanning functionality was introduced, I haven't been in a situation where I could make full use of them so I think I will be creating a multi-start on Earth. I have contemplated a rerun of the Nemesis scenario with several modern states/alliances or a 2020 start in an alternate timeline where the Cold War didn't end with NATO, the Warsaw pact and China as the opposing nations. Even an alternate timeline where technology is somehow made available to countries in the 17th Century and we get an Age of Sail in space with the English, Dutch, French and Spanish (Portugal was part of Spain from 1580 until 1640).

However, it occured to me that there are probably a lot of scenarios in the fertile minds of the list members and it would help anyone playing a campaign if those ideas could be suggested in this thread. Not just multi-start or even Earth-related scenarios but anything you can think of.

Here are a couple of links for Wiki relating to population and GNP if that helps in suggestion scenarios based on the modern world.

To make coming up with modern day scenarios a little easier I have created a spreadsheet that lists the top 100 or so countries with pop and GNP listed. The spreadsheet has columns for eight allliances next to the country lists. Enter a 1 in the appropriate column for any country you want to include and the spreadsheet calculates the population and GNP in billions of dollars for each alliance. I have setup a possible scenario as an example but you can change the alliance names as required. You can also change the population and GNP figures if you want to give countries different values.

How interesting. I actually did exactly the same thing with that data, except I loaded in all of the countries.  On the data form you just change the code for the alliance (in the spreadsheet).  I had 9.  Which was crazy to run.

The totals worksheet adds things up for the alliances, but most of that page is actually manual.  I had calculated a starting point and then edited the numbers (writing over the formulas) and used it to edit the starting setups.

The bulk of the data may be useful if people are interested, so I've attempted to attach it below.
