The second one is mostly the same but instead of a medium missile rack their is one heavy rack, being able to take larger Nova missile, made to defend warp points in space. The Wing is reduced to 23 AJ-37 +1 AJS-37. In both cases our carriers magazines have to be slightly increased to give them all 4 reloads. The Admiralty votes for the first alternative, mostly because they can take the 3.5 reload and have replenishships with new missiles

i only have quibbles

i feel, for starters, that you are *way* into the tech stratum where AMMs make big missiles ineffective in open space.  i don't have a suggestion to address this that isn't a major change of concept, so i'll just move on.  big honking missiles at jump points never go out of style, i'll agree.

your ASMs are just a hair faster than your fighters, and the fighters themselves aren't speed-at-all-costs designs.  so, you're up against the possibility that opposing fighters or even FAC might be fast enough to get into a missile wave and run with it and point defense down the whole volley.  your missile tech is so capable i feel it will be trivial to address this.

over 300 tons, you're definitely above the resolution level for anybody who happens to have an active tuned to find fighters.  it would be a complete redesign to try to fight that, but you can just lean into it and go up to 500 tons.  a little range and maintenance might open up some tactical options, obviously that depends on a lot of things i can't see from here.

That's... really, really fast.

Since I'm not familiar with that tech level I'm not sure what wrong can really be done here.  However, I will say that when it comes to warhead sizes, I prefer to keep my warhead strengths limited to the products of square numbers.  For example 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, etc.  Because of the way that missile damage affects armor belts, your strength-24 "Shipwreck" is only cutting a gouge 4 armor levels deep, where a strength-25 missile would be piercing 5 levels deep.  The aurora wiki goes in to some detail about this.  Size 5 and 6 warheads are also much less efficient than either size 4 or size 9 warheads, imo.

YMMV

I think you should have at least enough crew endurance for 5 days, because you don't want a morale hit interfering with accuracy just because a 5-day turn processed at an inconvenient time.

That is some serious stand off range on your missiles.  Unfortunately, late game, long range missile fire is effective against civilian shipping, and that is about it.  You need such a huge throw weight to get through AMMs that you will waste a lot of missiles on overkill.  You should at least have a sensor on board that can retarget against ships of 200 HS and larger.

Part of the problem with long ranged missiles is you can't do it half-assed.  If you don't have enough missiles to kill the majority of the enemy fleet in a volley, you are being inefficient, and might have to retreat to reload.

Also, if you had some fighters with anti-ship fire controls and launchers and others with anti-missile fire controls and launchers you would be spending less on fire controls, and have faster, more efficient strike groups.  Fire controls are EXPENSIVE in late game.

You are also getting to the tech level where cloaked warships are going to have smaller cross-sections than fighters, and more space for fire controls for outranging them.  Plus more space for ECCM and ECM.

That said, there IS a late game role for fighter bombers in late game.  You can use them for colony security, for taking out probing survey vessels, buying important time for the rest of your fleet to show up.

Missiles are great in low tempo games, where you have years between wars to build up missile stocks.  They are great in that you don't have to pay maintenance on a planet-load of missiles.  But even when you win, you have thrown away a tenth of your build cost in those missiles.

As an RP, where you might have artificial limitations in the size or cost of your fleets, but no limitations in your missile stocks, it is GREAT.  Having RP issues driving your fleet design can be FUN.

Yea I know, missiles are being relegated to harrasment tactics, 24 is the strenght that worked before... Yes I can build smaller missiles that are faster and with less punch and probobly get them to hit better and awamp his defences, but bigger is better ;D
My current enemy is using 6 layers on his destroyers... Have to se whats on his capital ships, as of now I need 6-14 missiles per destroyed destroyer, a little luck can go a loong way sometimes. His missiles are even loooonger ranged, only size 4...

In a game earlier I lost my BC Hood to a large laser that only penetrated my armour and blew up my only and large magazine... How historical... ;)

I don't think you have enough Flight Crew Berths for your intended strike group.
Also that is a massive range that the Arizona BBV has.

A question: Why not design the Scimitar around a 10cm railgun? You'll get more damage output as it can fire every 5s for 4 damage instead of 20s for 4 damage. I believe it'll also end up smaller then the spinal laser version, and has the advantage that a mass of railgun fighters can help serve as escorts and thicken the anti-missile screen.
