Officer Retirement
« on: January 26, 2020, 09:41:21 PM »
I have been looking for some info on officer retirement.

Lately I've noticed that my top leader (Rank 4 rear admiral) continuously retire around 65 years of age.  I know that officers cant serve for life but it just seems a bit soon for me.
For example one admiral retired at 65 and his replacement retired at 67 just two years into his tour.

Does every rank have a minimum age for retirement besides the Auto assignment discharge for surplus officers or is it a hard minimum for a certain age?Or is it just random after a certain age?

I'm playing on 7. 10 BTW

Thank you.

There's no minimum age as far as I'm aware. However, with auto-promotion ranks are based on how many officers are in the previous rank (IE if you have 5 captains and 0 commodores, one captain gets promoted into a commodore). So if you have the same amount of academies you'll likely end up with the same amount of naval officers, and therefor the same amount of rear admirals, only getting replaced as the previous ones retire/die.

Yeah, there's no info about retirement age in the current version of the game.  I know that Steve has talked about retirement age for each rank in the new Aurora C#

And yes I understand the Rank ratio.  I suppose I just need to bolster my lower ranks so that they promote faster and further up and therefore last longer in the higher positions before death/retirement.

The retirement age is not totally random, it generally happens in the late 60's. I thought Wiki had an article on this as I swear Steve explained years ago on the forum but the article on Leaders doesn't say anything about it.

The default settings are 24-month tour lengths and start checking for retirement at age 65. . . even if you're not playing humans.

The up-or-out system and the realistic promotions settings have always been bugged, though they at least give different messages ("deemed surplus to requirements and let go" vs "suffered a medical problem and forced to retire" vs simply "retired" for age-related causes).
