On the Sabre, why waste space on a turret when a fighter doesn't need one? Turrets are meant to solve the tracking speed issue of a capital ship, an issue that strike craft don't suffer from.

The Gauss Cannon is 1 HS(50 Tons), the turret is 1.2 HS(60 Tons), so I saved 0.8HS(40 Tons). 0km/s Turrets have proven to be excellent assets to me, increasing RoF for 0.75x weight 10cm Lasers, reducing Crew Needs, and in this case giving me almost two guns for the price of one, which is basically four 10cm Railguns for no power requirement and 1.2 HS versus 3HS and a modest decrease in range (60k versus the railguns 90k)

Zero-speed turrets in my game weigh the same as the installed guns.  I can put in a negative number for the turret speed... that allows the turret to be smaller than the equivalent guns, right down to a minimum of 1 HS - but I think that's unintended behaviour.

Black magic indeed - I just took another look, and the turrets on your fighter are using the 0.6HS/10%-accuracy Gauss Cannons, rather than the 1HS/17%-accuracy ones.

So that's where you're getting the extra space savings - less accuracy.  I probably should put a note about the negative-speed turrets in the Bugs thread.
