Calling this an update would be a bit presumptuous so i'll call it a semi-update, hence the 3.5. Problem is, I should make another semi-update or I'll end up with "update 4.5"
As you may know i am quite busy with my current
! KICKTARTER CAMPAIGN - BUY ! - BUY ! - BUUUY !!!!But this sunday I couldn't hold myself to setup the data structures and code some basics stuffs related to population types (and social classes), education and ethics.
While I have something to show (found / made some icons and created the UI layout) here is a bit of informations on how ethics and traditions will work.
A while ago, I have created the policy system
(Details here (disclaimer : dark humour)) , and added a bunch of exemples.
Adopting policies will shift one or several city ethics toward a value. The player will be free to change any policies but if the state ethics shift too much from the population tradition (represented as a colored bar) it will generate some dissent among it.
Education will serve multiple purposes. One of it is to shift the tradition value of the populations to the state ethics.
Therefore, big political changes in contradiction to the populations traditions or immigration from a culturaly divergent planet will cause unhappiness in the population as very different ethics will blend into the existing one.
Most ethics on the screenshot are self-explanatory but the latest needs some clarifications : specieism is how a civilisation treats other species, be it sentient or not, in the first bunch of policies I mentionned, it may be affected by banning meat.
