Colonizing Pre-Existing CMCs
« on: February 27, 2022, 08:38:57 AM »
Let's say that the "Union Aerospace Corporation" decides to build a mining colony on Mercury. A few years later, I decide to export some of Earth's excess financial centers (and their associated workers). Thanks to colony cost reduction tech, Mercury now looks like a great place to put the bankers and tax collectors.

What happens if I move settlers into a pre-existing CMC colony?
  • Will the colony still get deleted once the parent planet/moon/etc. runs out of mineable resources?
  • Will the CMC's owner continue to build new mining installations over time?
  • Will the settlers be allowed to use the CMC's mass driver?

Create your own colony there. Yours and the CMC will live together. But, if you find a place you want a colony and no CMC, put a zero-pop colony there first. They won't put a CMC there with yours.

No, only the CMC mines will afaik.

Yes, I think so.

> Will the settlers be allowed to use the CMC's mass driver?
Yes, it's your mass driver - you can just move it elsewhere too, if you want to.
