Help with Missile PD analysis
« on: July 02, 2024, 06:44:52 AM »
Hello, I'm having difficulty determining why one class of ships did so much better than another with point defense against a precursor missile salvo.

After the AMM screen, 31 missiles in 3 groups made it through and my gauss ships of various classes took their turn. All but 1 were knocked out.  All I know about these precursor missiles is that they were size 4 and traveled at 30.1 kps. The 2 classes I'm concerned about are below. The Morale/Grade/Training are maxed out for all involved ships.

4 of these ~55 year old ships in the below class killed 13 missiles with an actual hit rate of 20.6%
Applicable combat log entry: Shots 63 Missile Kills 13 Decoy Hits 0 Overkill 9 Avg CTH 18.2% Hit 20.6% Kill 20.6%

Code: [Select]
Liscome Bay I class Light Cruiser      13,229 tons       329 Crew       1,466.1 BP       TCS 265    TH 1,600    EM 0

Sensor TH17 S50 EH0 (1)     Sensitivity 5     Detect Sig Strength 1000:  17.7m km

And 6 of these 2-3 year old ships in the below class killed 7 missiles with an actual hit rate of 6.3%
Applicable combat log entry: Shots 112 Missile Kills 7 Decoy Hits 0 Overkill 95 Avg CTH 31.8% Hit 6.3% Kill 6.3%
On average, these ships have commanders with better tactical bonuses than the above ships.

Electronic Warfare Jammers:   Fire Control 2    Missile 3

I'm not sure why the 50 year old ships with no EW and slower tracking cannons are hitting far better than my brand new cruisers.  There were 2 other classes of ships involved that also did as poorly as the second group, which were in between the above two in age/tech levels.

I suspect that the answer in the Overkill figures it looks like the more modern ships hit 7 missiles 102 times, while the earlier group hit 13 missiles 22 times, it is possible that the modern ships engaged last and so only had 8 missiles to shoot at?

I agree, it seems that the system doesn't count overkill hits as actual hits.

Today  I ran a battle with one type of PD ship all missiles were stopped but I only had a 30% hit rate because of the number of overkill shots

Thank you all. It seems I can continue to trust the CTH estimates. The fire of the oldest ships was listed first in the event log.

I'll have to research FC priorities again and play with them to see if I can get the modern ships to fire first.
