Gravitational Survey equipment is Military class why?
« on: February 15, 2010, 07:17:30 AM »
I'm sorta confused on why Gravitational sensors are military classed?

by the same logic shouldn't Geological sensors be classed as military?

Is their some kind of explanation why a piece of scanning equipment that detects gravity wells makes the vessel its on military classed?

thanks guys !

The reasoning goes something like this:

Corporations will look for businss opportunites by searching for mineral deposits in your own system, much like, say, Shell looks for new oilfields.
No corporation will be granted access to grav-survey sensors, due to the risk involved (First Contact Situation, for example). You won´t see a nuclear powerd supertanker either :)

well iirc the US experimented with nuclear powered cargo vessels for trade, but it wasnt cost effective at the time :)

but yea i guess.

Gravitational sensors are classed as military because they allow you to expand your Empire and search for new routes to attack known aliens. Geo sensors only work within the confines of your existing space.
