Five days increasment checks bit unfair?
« on: August 30, 2011, 06:15:05 AM »
I noticed that Communication Attempt Check happens every five days increasment (and thats right), but there is only one check for thirty days increasment. Why not six per month? But it did not matter much. What is matter that, after heavy testing i assume that Civilian Mining Increasment Check happens every five days too, but only ONCE if you pass thirty days. Six times less chance to get new mine, not fair! >:(

As with all such things in Aurora, the chance of sucess varies directly with the length of the increment - eg if you have a 1% chance of achieving something in 5 days, and the next increment is 30 days, then the chance of sucess when its checked will be 6%.

If it doesn't work that way, it's a bug.  Steve strives to make the probabilities work out correctly no matter how big the timestep is.  He's missed a few spots in the past, but that's oversight rather than intent.

That's correct. At some point I need to go through and add modifiers for the amount of time passed for those items I missed

For infinitesmal 1% it does :)

Otherwise (of course) he should be using exp(rate*time).  For most of the probabilities in the game, however, I think the small-value approximation is decent....
