Hello,

As you may or may not know, I am spacemarine otherwise known as Defranstrategy on youtube. I have not created videos in quite a long time due to a variety of reasons I will not get into now, however I have grown some nostalgia to do so and wish to also continue to help this community grow and people to continue to understand the game that steve brilliantly provides us. The first thing I will be focusing on is what the channel was created for, teaching people the game and that means a conventional starting steps series, a series I have done in the past and which purpose is to explain how and most importantly the Why to my actions as I guide a new player through the early game of a conventional start with default settings.

Now this is where you lovely people on the forum come in, since it is 2025 and I have come back I want to improve on what I have done before and not just copy paste the work I did in the past, you can help in that effort by replying to this post with any ideas or things which you believe new players would find helpful, or things when you were starting out would like to see, it can be for this planned series or it can be for tutorials in general, talk to me about how you like to understand and obtain information from video and what is the most inoffensive way of doing that. linked below is my last conventional starting steps videos from quite a while ago , which you can provide critique on to help improve this new one. Many thanks for spending your lifes limited time to help me in this function:

Hello Space Marine, so far I had a lot of help understanding the game from your video, so first of all: THANKS!
Here a list of topics I would like to understand better and probably are also good for new players:

- how to design properly a ship. Main concept and basic design that works (Commercial-Military etc.)
- how to manage fighters and carriers
- how to expand: speed of expansion and different strategies to obtain enough minerals to supply production
- how to setup academies, how to choose the right officers and don't let them die, retire :)
- managing fleets, proper name and good way to keep them organized
- Combat. Different tutorials on how to use beam and missiles, how to fight properly
- Spy and intel. Use of ELINT module
- Turrets. How to design turrets and when is good to use them
- Shield Armor mechanics
- Ground unit design and organization. Support fire

It seems already a lot!
Hope it helps, Farewell

Welcome back, I enjoyed watching the series Commonwealth and the series where they just introduced the aither raiders (I liked it the most), watching with auto-subtitles. Perhaps there is a lack of a tutorial on rocket design and the basics of terraforming (in my opinion, though, it is not important for everyone). And the initial setup of the game - for example, interface mods (I am one of those for whom the original interface hurts the eyes), and the first thing a newbie encounters is the primary menu for creating a new game (quite a few settings that are mind-boggling if you have no experience in the game).

I always enjoyed watchting your playthroughs. (the other one was from quill18).

What helps me the most to learn and understand is, "why" we are doing that. E.g.: Why is it important to have ground troops that size and that composition. Since by that I can easily deviate from your path once i understood the principle.

Looking forward to your new series!

I second this! Overall broad strategy discussion is what I find lacking over the spectrum of tutorials on youtube. Maybe even more detailed discussions in use-cases of different stuff. For example different deployment scenarios of automanted mines, manned mines and orbital miners. Or upsides and downsides of single engine and multi engine designs in military ships.

Hey Glad your making a return.

One thing I would say about your normal playthroughs is even though the game gives you build points you tend to always use them and start with a full fleet of ships usually a ship for every role. Which leaves a complete beginner in a state of "oh how did you get that ship I don't have it did I miss something"
TBF You do always make 0 day videos showing you building all those ships but maybe that could be a bit of an overload considering all the other game mechanics a new player needs to learn.
It would (IMO) be more beneficial to new and learning players to see you building from literally zero. So ignore the free points.

When starting out I got great benefit to be able to follow EnterElysium/Quill18 (and more recently CountCristo) by building a little scouting ship to run around the local system and retrofitting to a Grav ship and then building a cargo ship to drop infrastructure on Mars Etc.etc. I would watch their videos until they built the small scout paused it copied that in my own game and un paused and followed the orders they gave it and so on.  It was really helpful starting out.

It also had a side benefit as you watched these ships be designed and built in real time you where a little invested in their progress so storytelling wise it was better.

That would be my thinking anyway.
