Banks are a place where money "grows" and it does not take long for a "frontier town" to have one. Specifically in the US West, banks were often found in towns before rail, and were one of the factors of determining which town to route through.
A broader term is that Construction Factories make tangible goods, while Financial Centers make intangible goods, aka, services.
