AD 2307 (January) to (December) Watching the Galacite Stockpile Dwindle
The NCC has its eye firmly fixed on the state of the Galicite reseve as the refits and rebuilds are draining the stockpile quickly but so far they have not had to down check any production outside of the replacement of the lost Tribals and Quivers. They suggest that replacement of the existing combat ships has priority. The NCCFB is able to stop refining as the demands on the farm lower and can be met by the civillian harvesters at Jupiter.
On April 4 a major step forward is made on the age old dream of terraforming Mars. The oxygen level of the atmosphere is now Earth normal (0.2 Atm) and the risk of death due to a breach in the wall is now only due to the chill of the martian temperature. Mother nature steps in a few months later and assists in mitigating that problem as the perma frost melts slightly changing the albedo of the planet to help it absorb and retain more heat. Terraforming experts now suggest that with but a single more shift like that the planet may actually reach (if just barely) the sweet spot for human habitation.
2307 (April 4) The addition of Oxygen to the atmosphere of Mars has been halted and the terraformers begin releasing water into the atmosphere
2307 (August 23) Due to increasing temperature the ice sheet on Mars has melted increasing the Albedo from 1 to 1.015. This has caused a sudden temperature increase from -28°C to -24.3°C.
2307 (October 5) The addition of Water to the atmosphere of Mars has been halted and the terraformers begin releasing nitrogen into the atmosphere to thicken it to a full 1 Atm. In reality I now am releasing "Safe Greenhouse Gas" to match the amount of water (2.5%), this is higher than what is present on Earth in the overall atmosphere but less than the fraction in the lower atmosphere ~4%
The three Jovan moons are still undergoing their initial round of terraforming. It is clear that it will be impossible to bring them into anything similar to the state of Mars as the are just too cold for a standard atmosphere to do more than reduce the risk of death due to loss of a breathable atmosphere in the colonial structures.
2307 (December 24) Addition of Oxygen to the atmosphere of Callisto has been halted and the terraformers return to release nitrogen to thicken the atmosphere.
With the improved engines on BuSurvey's ships making what used to several month long trips into significantlly shorter ones the green light is given for a new Survey team to be assembled, their first task will be the ground survey of all of Saturn's moons that have diameters over 1000 km. The first target is Titan.
2307 (December 27) 2nd Geosurvey Team dropped off on Titan
This is a bad year for the NC's leadership. Several of them are diagnosed with serious medical issues and there are in the course of the year two serious accidents. This is the first such events in nearly a decade. The officers struck with illness are unlikely to pass their next medical exams so the net result will be two more lost officers. Lt. Cmdr. Nefsteinsson was lost in an inspection of work on the ships outer hull that turned deadly when a pressurized line burst and the resulting sharpnel penetrated his EVA suit. Mr. Giacomini perished in a traffic accident on his way home from work as a computer malfunction caused his car to suddenly accelerate through a traffic stop.

The latest update to the Bauxite class. The addition of the second engine gives the ship better protection against an engine failure on the typically multi-month journeys the ships are assigned to. This results in a tremendous boost to the ships velocity and thus will shorten trip times by around a factor of 2.5.

Spaceframe Renewal Program
By the end of this year the ships making up BICs heavy lift group have all been refit or rebuilt to the latest standards. The ICGs have had all but one of their jump capable transports refit to the ion engine (IU) class, the last ship will be refit after the Bauxites are all converted. BIC is working on a plan to produce 6 full Heavy Lift Groups and 10 ICGs. This will expand the available lift capacity and enable BIC to both meet its current needs and to consider the establishement of new extra solar colonies. The refit of the Refinery and Terraforming ships will begin shortly. All colonies have sufficient fuel to last even with fewer FHGs available for a while. However, this requires the S/A Ansaldo and Litton-Ingels yards be free to handle the two types of Refinery ships.
The ships of 5th and 6th Squadron have the priority for rebuilding as they are the oldest Frigates still in service. The ships were constructed in the early 2280s and have now served over 25 years. The replacement of the C1 class of pinnaces is also proceeding though it will be at least one more year before they are out of service entirely.

The Industrial Park on Faewald is in full swing with sufficient housing and lifesupport being produced for 2.2m colonists Infrastructure x660, still below the demand. Government House can only hope that increased deliveries of machinery for new factories and mines offsets this problem over the next few years. I admit I am puzzled by the production figures as the industrial capacity of Faewald is 15xx, which is enough for the production of Infrastructure x750 in a year. That is is over 90 below what it should be strikes me as lot more than can be accounted for by small misses in production turns or when swapping from one queued job to another and more that can be accounted for by the fact one job is still running at the end of the year (30-40 infrastructure or so more). To test this I will increase the number of Infrastructure per job from 60 to 150 and see if I get more usable production per year. I have to be close to the number of infrastructure I need to equal growth as the difference isn't growing very fast but it is still not falling. The NCC is watching this carefully to prevent a reoccurance at Biforst.
On January 7, ICG IV arrives, the ships depart for Sol on January 28. On January 10, FHG X arrives to add to Faewalds farm, the ships remain in orbit until Febuary 17 and are back harvesting Doinean on Febuary 25. On March 8, FHG II arrives to add further to the Farm, the ships crews have leave until April 20 and the group is back harvesting on April 25. ICG II arrives on March 13 and departs for Sol on April 4. The last trip of the oversized Heavy Lift Group I sees the arrival of the 4 ships on March 22, they break orbit of Sol on April 4 along side ICG II. On August 16, FHG I makes Faewald orbit, the ships crews are on shore leave until September 21 and are back harvesting a week later. On October 25 ICG I arrives and on November 25 is on the way back to Earth. November 10 sees FHG X make Faewald orbit, the ships finish their leave period on December 8 and are back harvesting on December 14. December 2 sees the arrival of the first all ion drive ICG with ICG IV arriving from Earth in less time than is usual to reach the jump point, the ships depart on December 8 as the reduced transit time requires a shorter shore leave. December 16 sees the arrival of ICG III which offloads the minerals from Banshee before giving its crew shore leave.

Biforst's Industral Park prefabricates enough housing and lifesupport for 0.44 million new colonists Infrastructure x88 all of which is added to the existing stockpile. It is clear that the size of the industrial park itself will need to be increased as natural growth is approximately that amount. In the year a new PDC is assembled adding to the colonies defences around its downport.
2307 (April 20) Assembly of a new PDC (Tranquility U3 class) is completed
On January 30, ICG VI arrives and departs for Rosetta deadhead on Febuary 11. March 2 sees FHG VII arrive to add to the tank, the ships remain in orbit until April 14 and that same day are back at Valhalla harvesting. On July 14, FHG VIII arrives for their turn at shore leave, the ships depart for Valhalla on August 23 arriving 2 days later. ICG VII arrives on September 24 from Rosetta loaded with alien lab components and departs for Sol on November 5. On November 13 ICG VI arrives also fully loaded from Rosetta, departing for Sol via Forge on December 13.

The Industrial Park on Rosetta produces enough housing and lifesupport systems for 0.36 million colonists Infrastructure x72 and add it to the existing stockpile. It is unlikely it will be required much longer as the terraformers have nearly completely removed methane from the planets atmosphere. The temperature has also plummeted but this will require when the atmosphere is thickened.
On January 2, FHG IX is in orbit adding to the farm and giving its crew a chance at leave, the ships depart on Febuary 11 and are back harvesting on the 17th. Heavy Lift Group II arrives on September 2 and departs for Forge loaded with alien research facility components on September 16.

The Engineers switched over from digging out to digging in, construction fighting positions for the troops whose job just swapped from defending the ruins from the colonists to defending the colony from the ruins. The light infantry and its attached artillery force dug themselves in around the city perimeter while the engineers laid sensors through the city. It was not long before the first picture of the bulky hovering apparently robotic warmachines showed up... shortlyfollowed by the destruction of the drone. Basically floating cubes with weapon blisters they spread through the city.

The NCA troops learned the value of fibre optic communications and that active sensors brough even more active response. Their artillery tactics evolved as the aliens warmachines displayed counter battery missiles, air defence lasers, and highly potent anti-armour lasers. The first skirmishes cost the humans wounded and a lot of destroyed hardware but even if only occasionally was a warmachine outright destroyed the damage to them began to mount and they appeared to have only limited self repair.

"Sargent Major."
"Sir, we have motion looks like they are pushing out again. Dog Company is in the line."
General Wilkinson tapped his display and the map table lit up. "Looks like the last of them...assuming we have an accurate count." He taped his mike. "Artillery bombardment, Charlie Brown and Willy Peter."
The crew serviced 120mm rails oppend up launching rounds along multiple trajectories then bringing up the prime movers to excute the scoot part of shoot and scoot. The warmachines launched missiles in counterbattery fire at the where they though the rails were but NCA air defence blasted them out of the air providing a protective envelope for the gunners. The rounds started falling inwards and the alien's lasers fired back detonating many of them in mid-flight. But that fire generated more heat, and the heat exchangers plus the weapons themselves started glowing in infra red. Still the aliens were not as effective as the had been in the first battles and some rounds struck near the maneuvering cubes. White phospherous blastest out from some of the rounds, heating the targeted machines more, even if the chemical attack was less effective against TN materials, it was effective against their IR sensors. At the same time the fused rounds detonated 200 m above the battle field and DP cluster bombs fell among the machines the blast waves showering the aliens with sharpnel and buffeting the hovering cubes with overpressure shock waves.
"All sentry guns have acquired Sir."
"All birds have visuals locked in Sir."
"Excellent." General Wilkinson touched for a more general communications link. "Artillery fire for maximum effect. Launch Trip Hammers drones. Sentry guns free."
The warmachines bobbed and weaved buffetted by renewed artillery fire, their own counter fire screaming skyward and onboard laser fire sounding like whip cracks as the ionized air colums collapsed after each pulse. From points along the ridge and from revetments dotting the plain the sound of 12000 rpm electrically ignited gattling guns errupted, locked onto the hottest spots of the alien warmachines duranium slugs hammered their armour plating. One round would mean nothing but sucessive impacts in a small area caused stress and fatigue in the most robust material. Flashing overhead the Triphammer carrier drones were still accellerating as the passed over the battlefield at several different heights and directions from the launchers km behind the line. They had already launched their secondary projectiles. Each carried five and the aliens counter fire was blunted as they were occupied sweeping the sentry guns away. In many cases those guns had jammed the air defence lasers requiring the cube to dance as it tried to brings its defenses to bear against the oncoming air threat. The Trip Hammers struck: dual warhead, shaped charges designed to eliminate armoured vehicles detonated against the cubes and the most damaged of them blew appart as gas jets cut into their interiors.
Dog Company's infantry took out the last cube with man-pack-anti-amour missiles launched at the wobbling cube 15 m from their position. The Battle for Rosetta was over.
The fact that they had an industrial park to call on had let the Brigade fight robots with sentry guns, anti-armour missiles, thousands of 120 mm rail rounds plus dozens of new rail launchers as the aliens counter fire had caught them. Luckily the troop losses were minimal.
My best guess is that the combat strength 15 actually was closer to 10, as the only losses reported come to that much based on the estimate of a strength of 15. Not sure why there was two combats without damage or why the "1 hit for 0" damage was showing up on the results. And thank you to the person(s) who had said that one should not engage the enemy robots as I'd have been ticked to loose the colony!
